It was a great year for fanfic :-)
(12/17) Partners, by Nan Smith. This well written rewrite of the second half of the episode "Top Copy" develops a more plausible medical scenario -- it also develops a much more satisfying relationship plot.
(12/17) Barbeque, or Galactically Stupid? aka Badfic! This was not a normal round robin. This is bad. But it's good that it's bad; it's so bad, it's good. Do not read this while drinking anything; I cannot be held liable for the liquid sprayed all over your screen and keyboard. <g> (Also known as the chicken fic. No, not Lois's chicken, Superman's chicken.)
(12/1) So That's What You've Been Hiding, by Christine Carr. In the aftermath of Mayson Drake's death, Lois and Clark find time to talk about their feelings in this rewrite (and vast improvement!) of Resurrection's B-plot.
(12/1) Redemption, by Irene Dutch. Old sins come back to haunt Lois when Claude suddenly appears on the scene and threatens to destroy Lois and Clark's future. The future of a young man is also interwoven in this introspective study of guilt and forgiveness.
(12/1) For those of you over 18 and who like nfic, I'm pleased to recommend Without Consent, by Wendy Richards, available at Annesplace (you'll need a password; there are instructions on how to get one). Wendy has written a *very* long hurt/comfort saga -- the story has an early scene that's disturbingly violent, and lots of angst follows in the aftermath, but it's so well done I was glued to my screen for the better part of a day.
(11/6) Dawning, by Debby Stark. I know it's easy to be intimidated by the sheer length of this one (22 parts and counting?) but everyone should at least read part 1. Debby has staked out unique territory here, with a style all her own. Lots of stories have Lois learning Clark's secret, in one way or another. However, in most of them, Clark knows that she knows. But what if he didn't? ;-) Not all parts of this are on the archive; you can get all of them from Debby's site.
(11/6) Honor Among Thieves, by Hazel. Superman gets a mysterious message to meet someone in a dark alley off Suicide Slum, but the results of the meeting are hardly what he expects.
(10/17) Shaken, Not Stirred, by Irene Dutch. What if Lois discovered Clark's secret during the Nightfall Asteroid emergency? A charming relationship-centered story which explores the revelation under entirely different circumstances. This time Lois has an astonishing revelation for Clark.
(10/17) Wendy Richards recommends Coming of Age, by Notrepooh. Lois and Clark's daughter is kidnapped, and in trying to rescue her Superman compromises his secret identity, and their lives are endangered. Help, when it comes, is from an entirely unexpected source! The emotions are very well handled.
(10/10) To Wake From a Dream, by Mobile Richard. First season Lois discovers something interesting about her partner ... and takes her time deciding what to do about it.
(10/10) Both Wendy Richards and LabRat have recommended Fate Worse Than Death, by Pam Jernigan (me <g>). Lois is forced to choose between Clark and Superman, with devastating results.
(9/1) Timeless, by Becky Bain. An innocent gift sends Lois and Clark into another world, where they meet Catherine Chandler. She seems to have a connection with a series of slasher killings ... and Lois and Clark are determined to find the truth. A very long, but very good Beauty & the Beast crossover.
(8/10) Only You, by Margaret Brignell. This is a muti-part series that follows the life of the Alternate-Universe Clark from boyhood, through to "Tempus, Anyone?" and beyond. She's just released part 4, "Reality" and it was great, very involving. See the whole series (along with the rest of her stories) on her fanfic page.
(8/10) Oh, Mann! by Karen Ward. Just what did Jimmy see -- or think he saw -- when he interrupted Lois & Clark during the episode SuperMann? A short, funny vignette
(7/27) Forever Obsessed, by Judith Tylke. This end-of-first-season rewrite opens with Lois telling Superman, "We have to let Lex kill Clark. I don't see any other way." You have to find out how they got to that point, and where the story goes from there <g> Trust me, it's good: suspenseful, touching, and funny in turns.
(7/27) Wendy Richards would like to recommend Fear of Discovery, by Yvonne Connell. She thinks this is far and away Yvonne's best story, and it's one of the most compelling Wendy's read in a long time. She thinks Yvonne also makes good use of one familiar and well-liked character from the show, but we won't spoil further. A "must-read" story.
(7/27) Doc Klein's LabRat would like to recommend What If I Never Left Krypton, by D. Field. If the planet Krypton had never exploded, Kal-El would have grown up there, not here ... yet somehow, he'd still manage to meet and fall in love with Lois Lane :-) LabRat found the prose crisp and at times quite poetic, the dialog witty, the characters real, and the story exciting. Nfic version available through Debby Stark's list.
(6/5) The Power to Forgive, by Sharon Gilbert. Clark returns to Earth, bearing both physical and emotional scars from his year on New Krypton. This story deals with themes of violence, but never forgets that Lois and Clark share a love that makes them stronger together than they are apart.
(6/5) What a Wicked Web We Weave, by Jiji Baker. Lois Lane is cheating on Clark ... she's been seen in a compromising position with Superman! This story was written long before SL&V aired, and it covers somewhat different ground -- a very fun story.
(5/29) Amantium Irae Amoris Integratio, by Ruth Ellison (Rufus). When Lois tells Superman that she's chosen Clark, he has to find a way to tell her that the two are the same -- without her dumping *both* of them. This is one of my favorite revelation stories, with some great emotional wallowing on all sides.
(5/29) Memories, by Jennifer Adkins. Superman is at STAR Labs when he loses all memory of his life, so Lois has to convince him to stay with her and her husband, Clark. As the author says: "It's been months since anyone on L&C has had amnesia, so I figured, what the heck! :)" This story isn't deep, but it is cute.
(5/29) Hazel recommended Awakenings and Here We Go Again by Trevise. She describes them as "Next Generation" stories that start out on a sad note and quickly turn into something delightful. And Jimmy is priceless!
(5/22) Red Roses, by Steve Macko. Clark decides to take care of business, starting with Dan Scardino.
(5/22) Scent of a Superman, by Lola McClellan. Lois fine-tunes her nose for news, and discovers something interesting about her partner.
(5/22) Merry-Go-Round, by Peace. Now that Lois is dating Clark, she sees no reason not to set up her friend on a date with Superman ... hey, why don't the four of them double-date? <g>
(5/16) Top Secret, by Julie Jekel. This is a crossover, and you'll need more than a passing familiarity with both the X-Files and Quantum Leap to understand it, but it's extremely well-done, with drama, humor, and an intricate plot.
(5/16) Wendy Richards would like to recommend Dagger of the Mind, by Nan Smith. Nan speculates that it wasn't the Nightfall Asteroid that gave Clark amnesia in "All Shook Up", but a chunk of mixed green and red kryptonite buried inside. What happens when the chunk resurfaces a year later?
(5/16) Wendy is also pleased to recommend Firestorm, by Irene Dutch. What if one of Lois and Clark's descendants came from the future to help with a minor scientific problem even Dr Klein couldn't solve? This excellent and engrossing story, from a new writer, introduces a new Super-hero.
(5/7) Big Boys Do Fly, by Wendy Richards. This is an Elseworlds story, wherein Conor Kane and Laura Lindsay (the actors portraying Lois and Clark in an alternate universe TV series) find out they've a lot more in common with their characters than they could have imagined. Sounds odd, I know, but trust me, it's fun <g>
(5/7) Champagne Truths, by Judith Tylke. Suppose Lois found an envelope bearing the words "Clark is Superman" ... in her own handwriting? Judith tweaks the ending to Tempus Fugitive just a bit, and goes on from there...
(5/7) Date With a Stranger, by Mobile Richard. Lois is so happy that she's finally making some progress with Superman ... but what about these feelings she's having for Clark? A few interesting twists on a well-loved premise.
(1/26) It Happened One (Super) Night, by Wendy Richards. Suppose, in All Shook Up, that instead of crashing into a slum, Superman had managed to make it to Lois' apartment. That one small change turns out to have a profound effect.
(1/17/99) Not a Part of the Stars, by Donna Hafner. A very interesting look at what Clark's life might have been like before he came to Metropolis.
General Disclaimer: None of us own copyrights to Superman, Clark, Lois, etc, etc; they belong to DC Comics, Warner Bros, and who knows who else. We're just borrowing them to have fun; we're not making any money at this. And the fanfics recommended here represent my taste alone; there are tons of wonderful stories out there, way more than I will ever have time to list here.
