Misa gaped in shock at their surroundings. Paintings, carvings
and other symbolic scrawls lined the natural corridor. "Great Prophecies!" she
breathed in awe. "This must be some of the ancient temple areas from ancient
times!"
Yoda didn't give them a second glance, though Misa had no doubt his mind was
recording everything it saw. They continued through the various natural cavern
rooms, dodging stalactites and stalagmites, and counting on Onlon to guide them
safely through the treacherous terrain.
A small doorway, natural in formation, excepting for the door itself, seemed
to be the entrance into the Temple they were looking for. Misa drew her
lightsaber, activating with a soft hum, the heat from the laser itself flowing
from her hand up to her shoulder. It was reassuring to feel the power in the
weapon, knowing that it was well-made, finely honed and very honored.
Yoda concentrated and shook his head. "Feel no one out there I do. Alone we
will be." Misa opened the door, having to put her weight into it somewhat
because of its disuse. She poked her head through and found herself in the
second floor waiting area before entering the main communications center. She
pushed Yoda through quickly and shut the door behind them, praying that it would
open without too much difficulty if they needed to flee the same way.
Yoda had already made his way to the entrance door to the communications
center room. Closing his eyes again, Yoda noted the presence of three people
inside the other room. "Three there are. Who I cannot know."
"They are the Planetary Chairman and his two highest military personnel,"
Onlon informed them, his powerful voice softly murmuring in their minds. "I
could keep them occupied easily enough while you get in."
Yoda affirmed the plan of action and soon the noise of panic filtered through
the door. "I take it that's what he means by keeping them occupied," chuckled
Misa as she swung the door open and they barged through. Well, Misa barged
through; Yoda did a fast waddle.
"YOU HAVE ANGERED ME! YOU HAVE HARMED ME! ONLY BY THE GRACE OF MY BEING DO
YOU STILL SURVIVE UPON ME!" roared Onlon. The three Onlonian officials were
screaming in terror. Ag Burch was prostrate on the ground, terror etched upon
his face. Misa almost felt sorry for him if she hadn't known what a conniver he
was.
"Ungrateful beings they are, Onlon," observed Yoda mildly, waddling over to
an overturned chair. With some small concentrating and a gesture of his hand,
the chair was soon upright and Yoda was comfortably settled in it.
"More like sneaky and conniving," retorted Misa, pulling out cord from a
pouch hanging from her belt. She quickly bound the three Onlonians, gagging them
as well. She straightened up and looked from the idol module that represented
Onlon in various worship ceremonies to Master Yoda, whose eyes were so droopy
they almost seemed shut. "Now what?"
"I thank you both for your help," began Onlon.
Yoda waved Misa away dismissively. "Watch at door while we talk." Misa
growled something unintelligible yet impolite sounding and marched away. "Your
story I will hear, please, Onlon. Idea I have on our next move."
Onlon began to speak. Millennia ago the space being had grown tired of his
wandering and placed himself in planetary orbit for a long sleep. As time passed
and he slumbered, debris pelted him and his orbitation developed a degree of
gravity that increased with each circuit of the sun and with each pile up of
debris. From this debris formed life, water developed (as did other chemicals
and gases), and travelers of space began to see and remember a planet, not a
tired space creature. When Onlon woke thousands of years later, he discovered
that he had become a planet, complete with his own civilization and environment.
While he hadn't been sure this was a good thing, he didn't see what he could do
about it. Obviously, he had realized, he should have taken a shorter nap.
So he began to communicate with the people living on the planet he had
become. They immediately worshipped him as a god, and he helped them within the
environment. As time passed and other travelers visited, the Onlonian people
grew possessive, not wanting the real truth about their planet to come to light.
Rumors abounded but were dismissed as ridiculous by the Republic and Onlon was
accepted as a member. Onlon himself wasn't happy about the circumstances
considering offworld commerce was wrecking the environment he was trying hard to
maintain. Mining blasts tore through his exterior when they tunneled far enough
into the surface skin. The multitude of visitors to the communications temples
decreased, the government officials fearing that the secret would come out
through offworld visitation to the temples. In short what seemed an interesting
turn of events was becoming a major problem.
Onlon was stuck with situation, however. He had a full environment created on
him space-faring form and though he could easily get rid of the outer shell of
vegetation, water and gases, the creatures and people living there were a major
setback to escaping the whole mess. Things were progressing from bad to worse
when the fanatical Ag Burch was elected Planetary Chairman, a man who believed
that to control Onlon was to control the planet's population. Burch had
scientists working round the clock, trying to find a way to "capture" the space
creature and bring him under their complete control. Onlon feared they were
getting close to finding the solution they sought.
Yoda listened in silence, nodding here and there in understanding of the
predicament. Misa looked over in the lull, a worried look on her strong
features. "Tell the Republic we must. Actions they will take to stop this
crisis." Yoda lifted a finger to his mouth in a pensive movement. "Yes, tell the
Supreme Chancellor we will. Bring him here to speak to you we must."
"Then it is decided." Onlon sounded relieved at the decision. "Now you must
go. Our allies have been pushed far inside the cavern defending against Burch's
forces. Hurry and I will get you to safety once you have reached them."
Misa and Yoda glanced at each other. Misa lifted Yoda into her arms and Onlon
masked them as they left his room. Without even the smallest effort, Burch and
his cohorts bindings disintegrated and their minds wiped clean of the events
that had taken place by the powerful spacefarer.
