The Santa Hat

I was about to push the Santa Hat out of my eyes for about the ninth time in as many minutes when I finally sighed and gave up.

//Fine! It wants to be in my eyes, it can be in my eyes, I'll just sit right here the rest of the night.// I thought to myself.

Pixie had suggested everything that she could think of to keep it in its rightful position on the top of my head, but none of it had worked. The bobby pins had simply fallen out of my hair, I couldn't set it farther back because my pony tail was in the way, and the hat was simply too small for me to put it over my pony tail, it would have just fallen off.

I sighed again, resigned to my fate of being blind for the rest of the evening, when Jedi Kenobi and Master Qui Gon stopped in front of me. Ben lifted the hat up a little and gave me a wierd look.

"Why do you wear the 'Santa Hat' so that you can't see?" He asked.

I groaned and shook my head. Ben shrugged and let go of the hat, which promptly sank back in front of my eyes.

"Hey Kitt!" Melly called from across the room. "You gotta come see this, some of Temple Padawan are getting their first taste of Eggnog!"

Now this was something I couldn't pass up, so I pushed the Santa Hat back on my forehead and held it there long enough to walk across the room.

Merc looked at me with a raised eyebrow "Isn't it going to get tiring holding it like that all night?"

"No," I replied, "I fully intend to sit back down and let it fall in front of my eyes again. I just wanted to see their reaction to the Eggnog first."

Donna looked over at me and smiled, "Why don't you just take it off?"

"Would you believe 'Bad Hair Day'" I asked sarcastically.

Just as I said that Shadow walked by. "Is your hair misbehaving some sort of instructions that you have given it?" He asked so seriously that I had to hide a giggle.

"No Jedi Shadow, I was making a joke. I don't want to take my hat off, and Donna wanted to know why." I said smiling a little.

"Your hat slides down in front of your eyes, is that not the problem?"

Just as Shadow made the comment the hat resumed its blinding possition in front of my face because I had let go of it for a moment.

Shadow nodded as if I had replied, "well, the problem causing it appears to be that your hair is tied back, and is holding your 'Santa Hat' up too far. You could simply remove the hair tie."

"No, I hate it when my hair is on my neck." I realized as I said it, that I sounded suspiciously like I was whining.

"Oh, well, that is easy enough to solve. Simply cut off the offending bunch of hair, then it will be niether on your neck, nor obstructing the position of your hat." Shadow said it as if it were just as simple as that.

I looked at him with something close to horror showing on my face. "I couldn't do THAT Jedi Shadow. My hair is too short as it is!"

Shadow looked slightly confused by this statement.

Melly, Donna, Merc, and Summer smiled. They had an understanding of why I didnt want to do such a thing, but it would have been darn near impossible to explain my reasonings to Shadow.

"Well, in that case, let me see what I can do to help with your situation." Shadow moved the hat to its rightful place and kept it positioned there with the force. "That should hold the 'Santa Hat'" He said.

I bowed to express my thanks, and to my surprise, the Santa Hat stayed where it should. Shadow returned the bow and headed toward the buffet.

I looked over at Melly, Summer, Merc, Donna, and now Aya, who had just joined us near the Eggnog. "It worked, I don't believe it! The hats going to stay...." Just then the Santa Hat slowly slipped back down over my eyes. I could tell that the others were on the verge of laughing at my Santa Hat, which obviously had a mind of its own. I knew they werent laughing at me. It was just the stupid Santa Hat.

"I swear, that thing has a mind of its own!" Merc said with a grin.

I pushed the hat back and grinned wickedly, "No, not a mind of its own, it just doesnt have the right 'Master' if you catch my meaning..." I said, learing around the room for my victem.

"Kitt... What are you thinking about doing?" Summer asked, giving me the ever classic don't-do-anything-stupid look.

"Lets just say that, as much as I love this Santa Hat at some times, it trully needs to go." I let my eyes scan over the crowd. Then I spotted him. //Ah, just the Master I was looking for...// I thought to myself. "Tell me how the Eggnog tasting goes all, I need to go give someone an early gift." I smiled wickedly and walked toward the center of the room.

I bowed my respect, "Master Yoda" I said slowly, Hat in hands (literally), "I have a gift i wish to give you..." With that, I extended the Santa Hat toward Master Yoda, with the sweetest smile I could manage.
