8.3.00

hey, all my beloved readers.  it's damn near 3:00 in the morning at the jess camp, but my head is racing.  i was trying to get some shut eye, but (as it often does) my mind got ahead of itself.  i was just thinking about dr. laura and how she's allowed to be a hate-mongerer.  and then i started thinking about all the convoluted, horribly ignorant opinions she holds so dear.  it made
my field of vision shrink - she's just that naive.  i will just never understand a human who can tac a label on a group like "biological error."  it boggles my mind.  and isn't she jewish?  i mean, you think she'd be understanding or sympathetic or something to a group that's bashed and harrassed as much as the gay community is.  and i'm no spokesperson for it, either.  there's just something inside me that cringes every time i see her.  or hear her.  or hear of her.  she stands (in my mind) for everything that is wrong with america.  and i'm not talking soley about the crazy, conservative, right wing, homophobic,  fuck heads, either.  i'm talking about ignorant people.  period.  and all this brought me to an issue i  am immensely passionate about.  abortion.

now, if you kids have listened to anything i've ever said, you know i am clearly no conservative.  no, my political opinions fall somewhere left of center.  but abortion is an issue i wish was not a party issue.  because it shouldn't be.  if people in this country would use their damn brain once in awhile instead of believing everything that's ever been fed to them, they might begin to use that gift that humans have - common sense.
that's what this is about.  not choosing a side to get the most votes.  not doing what makes your age-old religion happy.  and certainly not believing something simply because mommy and daddy do.  i'm not about that.  life is not about that.  you should not be about that.  thinking is a wonderful thing, even if it keeps you up at night like it does me.

but back to the issue at hand.  first of all, i will shoot down some common myths the pro-lifers have about pro-choicers.  pro-choice
does not, i repeat, it does NOT equate to pro-abortion.  or worse yet: pro-death.  it simply means, "hey, i'm not living your life.  i don't know what you must go through every day.  therefore i cannot tell you what is right or wrong for you."  pro-choice means carrying that torch of freedom that so many of us take for granted.  it means letting people make the choices they feel are best.  and NEWS FLASH: not all abortions occur simply because the mother doesn't want the child.  there are some women whose lives are threatened by birth.  there are a gazillion factors to deal with here.  not everyone comes from a well-to-do family that has 3 generations alive to support them.  people have different situations.  deal with it.

now, in a perfect world, we wouldn't need abortions, right?  because all pregnancies would be planned and considered a blessing.  and, if for some reason the parent(s) were unable to care for the child, they could give them up for adoption so another couple may enjoy the wonder of life.  but get your heads out of the clouds, hipsters.  this is
not a perfect world.  nor will it ever be.  we may strive for the top, and do so admirably,  but we will never get there.  i wish every pregnant female in this world could have a support system and some one to council them.  there are so many options and avenues available to them.  yet i find more often than not, we'd rather take the cop-out route.  the one that says, "fuck it.  it ain't my problem.  you deal with it."  and that is so wrong.  it is all of our problems.  kids who grow up without a strong family life tend to be far worse off than their counterparts with intact families.  and then they grow up to have more dysfunctional families.  this is not what anyone wants.  i think we can all agree on that.  the problem with america is that when we find something we don't want people to do, we just pass a law and expect that activity to stop.  did we learn nothing from prohibitoin?  unfortunately the police force in this nation is neither strong enough nor trained well enough to make that plan a reality.  wake up, folks.  you've seen the riots.  now, if we all feel that passionately about an issue, it would be not only more successful, but also much more logical, to prevent it from happening - stop the problem at the root.  and i find this next part to be so very amusing...because if i didn't find it amusing, it would piss me off to insanity.  the people that think that by making abortion illegal, they will keep women from having abortions are the same people that think by keeping marijuana illegal, they stop people from smoking it.  there's just no logic up there, i mean, grow the fuck up, ignorantos. this is america.  a country founded on freedom, whether you like it or not.   americans are used to doing what they want.  if a woman really wants an abortion, she'll get it - even if a safe, clinical one isn't available.  there are plenty of coat hangers and stairs out there to make it happen.  and the people who want to make abortion illegal are also the same people who don't want teens to have access to birth control.  as if they took the safe avenues away, teens would stop having sex.  folks, you just can't get more ignorant than that...unless your name is dr. laura.  in which case, may i present you with the crown of ignorance.  wear it proudly, for  ignorance is bliss, they say.

"geez, jess, who lit a fire under your ass?"  had enough of my ranting?   never!  go back for more random ramblings.
