Big Star
Third/Sister Lover
This is it, Big Star, one of the great bands in the world who influenced
everyone from R.E.M. to the Replacements. What, you never heard of them?
Ha! Big Star, I think, is every music critics favorite band. Whenever
anything sounds poppy or anybody writes a song around three minutes long,
you sound smart by saying they sound like Big Star. In a way, I see the
point because these guys were really influential. But it's an easy cop-out
if you can't think of anything to write. Lord knows I did this a couple of
times in my reviews. The only real influence of Big Star is Paul
Westerberg and the Replacements, and that's because Westerberg wrote a
song called "Alex Chilton" about sacrificing virgins to the leader of Big
Star, or something like that. It's further proof that Paul Westerberg
is a depraved lunatic posing as a rocker posing as an AOR
singer-songwriter.
