A Note on Tape Formats
As you look through the listings, you will see a lot of odd formats for tapes.Cassettes you know,so here is a brief explanation of the rest:
REEL-TO-REEL:Just as the name implies, two open reels of tape.Looks similar to a tape in a recordins studio.Format vanished around 1972.
8 TRACK:US-based cartridge tape system in use from 1965 until the late 1980's.Capitol Records discontinued 8-Track tapes during 1982.
4 TRACK:US-based cartridge system in use from 1966 until around 1971.Differs from 8-Track in that there were 2 channels instead of 4.
PLAYTAPES:An odd US format from 1967-1969.Playtapes were about 2 inches by 2 inches and had 2 channels with 2 songs on eack channel.
