On December 30, 1945 David Thomas Jones came into the world and blessed two wonderful parents, Harry and Doris Jones. He was a happy, normal kid....well sort of normal. Davy was the youngest of four children, surrounded by three sisters, Hazel, Beryl, and Lynda. The Jones' family loved to go fishing and camping on special weekend trips, and were a considerably close-knit family. Young Davy also had a knack for singing and acting. His father Harry was in the service for a bit and Davy has many memories of that. Sad news soon came to the Jones household. Unfortunately Doris had empyshema. When Davy was 14, his mom died from it. It hit the family hard especially since he was extremely close to his mom, since she was a stay at home mom. Soon after she died Davy left home. That's when he began working at the stables in New Market.
Davy had always dreamed of becoming a jockey. He trained for 6 months, and that's the first time he was called cowboy, when he first tried to get on the horse and move. He has loved horses all of his life, and recently raced his horse Digpast in a recent race. He lost, but he had the time of his life just getting back out on the track.
Davy's horse time didn't last very long. His talent for acting and singing was soon to be discovered and besides the roll on the BBC sitcom Coronation Street, he also got a part in Oliver! playing the Artful Dodger. Davy had a blast touring around, and becoming a man in more ways than one. During this time he met up with Ward Sylvester who became his agent.
After Oliver ended Ward decided to find a vehicle for Davy. He tried Davy as a solo artist, and that is when Davy released his first album entitled..David Jones. It wasn't a big seller and so Ward continued looking. It wasn't long before he found the Monkees. He knew that would be the perfect vehicle for Davy.
So our Davy became Davy Jones, the Monkee with the stars in his eyes and the charm to woo all. We all know about this time...the tours, girls, and everything. Also during this time his dad died from empyshema, the same awful problem that had killed his years a few years later. Then, still only just a teenaged young boy, almost as quick as a blink of an eye he had married Linda Haines and received a beautiful baby girl Talia. He was a Daddy!
After the Monkees Davy tried to go on his own again, doing spots on popular shows of the period including the Brady Bunch, and Laugh In. During that time he also had his second daughter, Sarah. Then it seemed, as soon as it started, he faded away into the limelight.
During those years he got a divorce, and moved around alot. He was at a loss really. Then Bobby and Tommy called him. That one call turned into Dolenz, Jones, Boyce, and Hart and a tour around the world.
So he was back in the scene! DJB&H did fairly well with a very appreciative audience in Japan, and hitting every amusement park in the US. But like all good things, this ended also. After this Davy and Micky stayed together a while, and even formed a band with Micky's sister Coco called the Laughing dogs. Also around this time Davy starred in the play the Point, written by Harry Nillson who also wrote the Headquarters song Cuddly Toy. Micky also appeared in the Point with Davy, but then they had a falling out and didn't speak to each other for about 9 years. After this Davy did solo shows and even some shows with Peter. And then he met Anita. They soon became married and during this time he also got his 3rd daughter Jessy.
Then 1986 came around, and so did the Monkees! Hey Hey They're Back! The show was a smash, and Mike Nesmith even showed up for a show! What fun! But trouble always lurks, and there were fights. After the 1986 sold out US concert tour, the 1987 concert tour was only performing to half full houses. 1988 was a dull year and then they gave it one last chance in 1989. Around these times Davy also got his 4th daughter Annabel.
Davy toured solo again in the 90's. But no one can forget 1996. BAM! Nick at Nite was showing the Monkees show again! I was falling in love with Davy, and the Monkees were back and better than ever, with the Ghost Monkee Mike back and ready to be a Monkee again! Then came the new CD with only the 4 of them, the only other album like that since Headquarters, named Justus respectively. Davy and Anita were on the rocks.....but boy were the Monkees on fire! A tour progressed, a 1996 tour in the states and a 1997 tour across the way in Europe.
Monkeedom never lasts forever. The movie deal was shot down, they split...and they haven't gotten together very much since. In 1998 Davy got the Teen Idols Tour together though, and became a single man again. Well except for his girlfriend Gillian Holt. Davy Jones, Bobby Sherman, and Peter Noone...together...The Teen Idols! It was meant to be a show where they would share the stage together the whole concert, as was Davy's dream. But his dream was shattered. It soon became a one act after the other show, and Davy didn't want to keep going that way. He quit the tour, and also his relationship with Gillian ended. Right now he's doing solo shows, and he's single...well until I meet him...but that's another story.....
