hi everyone -- i was alerted by melissa, and others at the web board (thanks, julie!), that sam being cast in george clooney's "confessions of a dangerous mind" was discussed in a george clooney article in this week's newsweek. the article is (so far) available at the following url:
http://www.msnbc.com/news/669807.asp and the pertinent bits are as follows:
"Confessions has been one of Hollywood's most alluring vehicles to a whole slew of actors ever since producer Andrew Lazar bought film rights to the 1984 memoir by "The Newlywed Game" creator Chuck Barris, who purports to have led a double life as a CIA hit man. Mike Myers, Russell Crowe, Sean Penn, Johnny Depp and Ben Stiller all expressed interest in playing Barris, thanks in part to a script by "Being John Malkovich" scribe Charlie Kaufman.
But it wasn't until Clooney agreed to direct and costar for a modest $500,000 in the financially risky project that "Confessions" moved forward. To keep costs down, Clooney is filming in the dead of winter in Canada, which will somehow double for New York, Philadelphia, Berlin and Helsinki.
For the lead role of Barris, Clooney decided to forgo marquee names. Miramax repeatedly gonged his choice of the unfamiliar Sam Rockwell ("Galaxy Quest"), but Clooney was wowed by the actor's dead-ringer Barris audition and prevailed after four months of haggling with the studio. He had to promise Miramax an acting cameo in "Spy Kids II" and rights to several future films in exchange for casting Rockwell."
also, sheena has alerted us that sam is listed in the cast for a new movie (pos. a short film?): D.C. Smalls. he is credited as a "kareoke singer," and leif tilden is in the cast as well.
and pictures have been found at wireimage of sam sporting a remarkably healthy beard. click on the link and type in "sam rockwell" into the upper left corner search engine to see for yourself. the bold move appears to be for a movie, and not his latest tactic to evade fans on the street, so.. hee. now, happy holidays!

hi everyone -- sorry for the sudden silence: i had some troubles gaining access to this account for some reason. oops. anyhow. so. sam's new movie heist is in theaters now, so make sure you check it out while you can! (will link to reviews and info asap this week)
also, tiffaney e-mailed from canada to tell me that.. "there is a review of your web site in Sympatico's "Net Life" magazine (the latest issue - it's a canadian magazine). I would type the review up for you, but I don't have the mag anymore, but I just thought you like to know to check it out for yourself. Your review is located near the back of the mag, where all the reviews for different sites are. I can't remember what the review said, but you got 4 stars for your site!"
now that is very cool. if anyone have this magazine, i would love to read what it said. talk about incentive to make this site bigger and better, aye? anyhow. go catch the heist, and be sure to keep your eyes open for sam popping up in magazines or so. have a good thanksgiving!

merlin alerted us to the following article (click to read at source):
"Rockwell To Enter 'Mind' Of Chuck Barris
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Sam Rockwell has been cast as "The Gong Show" host Chuck Barris in Miramax Films' biopic "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," directed by George Clooney and produced by Andrew Lazar.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting is expected to begin this month on a script adapted by Charlie Kaufman ("Being John Malkovich" ) from Barris' own 1984 book, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind: An Unauthorized Autobiography," published by St. Martin's Press Inc.
The film will follow Barris' alleged double life as a CIA assassin. Clooney will take on a small role in the project. Nicole Kidman has already been cast, and producers are said to be searching for another actress to play Barris' girlfriend, among them Renee Zellweger and Gwyneth Paltrow. "
and ryan posted the following from unknown source:
"Sam Rockwell has been signed to play Chuck Barris in "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," an adaptation of the game show magnate's comic memoir about how his "Gong Show" empire was a front for his actual job: permanently gonging evildoers as a government assassin. Rockwell joins Nicole Kidman and George Clooney, who'll also make his feature directing debut on the Miramax project.
After countless false starts with an array of top-notch stars and directors, one of Hollywood's strangest-sounding projects will finally get made thanks to the determination of Clooney and producer Andrew Lazar, along with Miramax, which has stepped up to finance the film.
"Being John Malkovich" scribe Charlie Kaufman adapted "Confessions." At various times such helmers as P.J. Hogan, David Fincher and Bryan Singer were ready to make it and Johnny Depp, Mike Myers, Ben Stiller and Sean Penn orbited the role of Barris.
Despite the promise of those names, the project stalled at multiple studios before it finally found footing at Miramax with Clooney directing. Clooney had long wanted to play the role of the CIA operative who recruits the title character and continued to track the film each time it imploded.
When he got the directing assignment, Clooney considered several top stars, including Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. But Clooney fixed on the versatile Rockwell after working alongside him in a small role in "Welcome to Collinwood."
Rockwell, a veteran of more than 20 films, hit the studio radar with scene-stealing performances in "The Green Mile," "Galaxy Quest" and more as the prime villain in "Charlie's Angels."
He most recently starred with Danny DeVito, Gene Hackman and Delroy Lindo in the Warner Bros. film "Heist," which David Mamet wrote and directed. That film had its world premiere Monday night at the Toronto Film Festival and opens Oct. 19."
exciting news, yeah? sorry for the delay in reporting about this - with the tragic events that occured last week, it's been difficult to divert my attention to this stuff. sigh. :(

morgan was kind enough to alert me of the following:
"Thought you might be interested to know that The Heist is scheduled to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 6-15. It's a Special Presentation screening and I don't know much about dates or tickets, but the Festival website gets updated pretty frequently if you want to find out more."
i checked their website, and The heist is indeed listed. hopefully this
means general release is going to happen october 19, as listed on the movie's official website. yey! :)

hi guys, sorry for the quiet spell the past few months - what can i say, it's summer. things will begin to pick-up within the next few weeks, though, so don't count the sam experience out just yet.
a good tip, though: this is samrockwell.com is a very good website to check for news on release dates or new hot pictures and whatnot, so make sure you've got it bookmarked! :)
i'm not going to disappoint you all with this update, though - there are some news - fellow fan merlin has alerted the sam crowd to the following:
"Sam plays an effeminate bellboy in the new Jon Favreau/Vince Vaughn black comedy about two goofballs who want to be in the mob. He's not in the credits. I heard he just did it because he is friends with Favreau and Vaughn and wanted to work with them in something."
The movie is called Made and is in theaters now, so i guess all i can say is - keep your eyes open for an effeminate bellboy?
as far as The Heist goes, the release date has been pushed back yet again, i'm afraid. keep your eyes peeled on the official heist website for the new dates (october 26 has been mentioned here and there) and make sure you catch all the pretty pictures on the website - there are several snazzy sam-shots. enjoy!

This just in from a very reliable source:
Sam will do an evening of two one-act plays at Williamstown this summer from July 25 through Aug. 5, Edward Albee's "The Zoo Story" and Harold Pinter's "The Dumbwaiter." Joe Mantello will direct.
So that's a "yey!" for all of us who missed sam in williamstown last summer. not that i think i'll be able to go, but i do expect full reports from all of you who do! :)
don't forget to vote for bigLove!

leif tilden, director of bigLove and friend of sam's seem to have stumbled upon this website. he was kind enough to e-mail to tell us the short film could use votes on the yahoo online film fest, so click here to go vote for bigLove! the winner (of the films) gets a screening on the big screen at the DGA theatre in Los Angeles! very cool.
apparently he also got sam to visit this website so .. yey. welcome, sam. freaked out yet? (laugh) leif gave the following tidbits:
- leif is trying to get the full feature version of bigLove off the ground.. it will star sam and be called "Phoebe & Nate" .. female costar so far undecided.
- sam is about to shoot a movie in cleveland called Welcome to Collinwood, directed by the russo brothers. sam has the lead, as a boxer, and is cast against jennifer esposito and the film apparently has a "huge supporting cast". shooting starts in april.
also, leif said he _might_ be able to drag sam online tomorrow (saturday) so just maybe if you go to the web board you'll see a greeting or so. if nothing else, go to read leif's posts. from my contact with him he strikes me as an utterly cool person - thanks for indulging us. :)
