The Commandment of Love
"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." -John 15:12-13
Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are: 1) that we love Him, and 2) that we love one another. That sounds simple until Christ tells us the extent to which we need to go to show out love, "laying down [our] life". There is no greater love, He says, than to "lay down one's life for his friends." Who can measure this kind of love? Only in Christ do we see its fullness. Christ gave up the comforts, joys, and adoration of heaven to live in our sin-stained world and carry away the sins of sinners. He bore insults, beatings, and eventually the Crucifixion to show His love. In this, His manner of loving, He asks that we do the same. We, too, are to be willing to bear pain in the process of loving others. As the living stones make up the temple of the Holy Spirit, with the love of God poured into our hearts, we can ask for and receive the grace and guidance to love as Jesus loved.
Nina's Footnotes
Are you willing to give up your life for someone else? I can't imagine a greater love than our God...the One who made us, who could destroyer with the swift of His hand...would come down here and died a horrible death...just so we could be with Him forever. We DIDN'T deserve it! But, He did it any. There's a lot of "love" going around in this world...but it's empty and worldly. Is there such thing as an everlasting love these days? Not one this place we call Earth. Only in HIM. We should love and care for people just the same as Jesus has done...and still does till the end of time.
