Our Duties
The Old Testament says that we have duties to ourselves, others, and to God. These are only a few of the duties.
Duties to Ourselves:
To be diligent; not slothful (Prov. 6:6-11)
To avoid sexual impurity (Prov. 7)
To gain wisdom and receive instruction (Prov. 2)
To avoid the danger of strong drink [alcohol] (Prov. 23:29-35)
To avoid entangling ourselves in someone else’s financial problems (Prov. 6:1-5)
To avoid excessive luxury (Prov. 21:17)
Duties to Others:
Honesty in all our business dealings (Prov. 11:1; 28:8)
Tact and kindness in our speech (Prov. 15:14; 25:11)
Mercy to those in need (Prov. 11:25, 26; 19:17)
Fairness and justice without respect of persons (Prov. 28:20, 21)
Training our children properly (Prov. 13:24; 19:18)
Helping friends who are in need (Prov. 17:17; 27:10)
Duties to God:
We are to trust in Jehovah (Prov. 3:5)
We are to give our offerings to Jehovah (Prov. 3:9)
We are to fear Jehovah (Prov. 10:27)
We are to run to Jehovah in time of trouble (Prov. 18:10)
We are to put Him before anything else (Prov. 30:7-9)
