Since "Real Monsters" ended its four-year run of new episodes at Nickelodeon in the spring of 1998, Charlie hasn't been idle. He currently stars on the Cartoon Network's acclaimed (and slightly surreal) series "Cow and Chicken", the story of two suburban siblings who just happen to be a Cow and a Chicken, whose parents happen to be human (at least they MAY be human), and who are constantly menaced by a character known only as "The Red Guy". Charlie proves his versatility by portraying all three of the main characters. And "I Am Weasel", in which Charlie does the voice of Weasel's hapless rival, I.R. Baboon, proved so popular that it is now a stand alone series on the Cartoon Network.
Charlie was recently nominated for an Annie Award for his work on "Cow and Chicken", but unfortunately he lost to another extraordinary voice actor, Rob Paulsen, who is best known for his portrayal of the clueless Pinky on "Pinky and the Brain". Congratulations, Rob!
Charlie is adding a new title to his extensive resume, voice director. He does the honors on several television shows, including Nickelodeon's "Wild Thornberrys" "The Brothers Flub", and "Rocket Power". In addition, he was voice director on thes hit theatrical release, "The Rugrats Movie".
But Charlie doesn't spend all of his time behind the microphone. He's guest-starred on many live action shows, including "Thirtysomething", and has appeared onstage in such plays as "Cabaret" (the Emcee), "Minnie's Boys" (Zeppo Marx), and "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (Snoopy). In 1985, he was nominated for the Helen Hayes Award for Best Lead Actor for his portrayal of Arnold in "Torch Song Trilogy".
More recently, he co-wrote and stars in a one-man play called "There Used to be Fireflies", in which he portrays over 15 different characters! The music for the show was written by David Eccles, who co-stars with Charlie as Krumm on "Aaahh! Real Monsters!"
