Finding a good nanny for Avery proved to be just as hard as Murphy's search for the perfect secretary. This was until Eldin volunteered for the job. When Eldin went to Spain, Rita Bernecky, Eldin's mother, took over the job.

Though Avery didn't appear on TV very often, he "re-appeared" in the last few seasons, cast as Haley Joel Osment.

By the final season, Avery was supposed to be 8 years old. (Though technically, he shouldn't have been that old.) Here's a blurb from E! online about this:
GROWTH SPURT: What's Murphy Brown been feeding her kid? Baby Avery will become 8-year-old Avery in the CBS sitcom's 10th season this fall, columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith report. I think this article is a bit exaggerated.... I mean they make it sound like he was a baby in season 9 and is all of a sudden 8 years old. He really would be 5 or 6.

In fact, it was because of Avery that Eldin came back. In the final episode, when Murphy sees Eldin again, its because Avery found Murphy's Sprint card (they did that as a joke, one of the many Sprint jokes throughout the show, because of Candice's comercials) and called him to tell him that Murphy has cancer.

We see into Avery's future in the episode "One." This happens while Barry Manilow is singing "I Am Your Child," just for Avery. Murphy imagines watching him grow up. In the final clip, Avery enters the house (all grown up) with his wife and his baby. It's a very touching scene.
