Jen Sent a Message to Helen

Jen sent a message to Helen
Said that it's so pleasant to be in a room
But between the poetry and lies
All I really felt was an overwhelming sense of gloom
She spoke of myths and legends
How he's still everpresent but this does not concern you
A life was just what happened when there was nothing else to do

And I've been sick now for a couple of days
I've been standing by the shrine of the girl who died down by the lake
And I'm still wired but there is something worse
It wasn't Tim it was me
who stole your last line of speed
from your open purse

And I've been awake now for several years
And I've possessed to the gift of the prophet said an ocean of tears
And I'm so tired from the sun and the rain And all the warmth and the joy in the home of those who remain

Jen sent a message to Helen
She waited at the station for an hour or more
But when none arrived she drove across the bridge and hammered on my door
And standing by the window
We lied that we would miss her on winter days
And wanting to forget this
She folded up the letter and she drove away

Now Jen is damaged
But hey that's nothing new
And Helen went and left me for a man whose suit is peacock blue
