Paul McDermott first came to our attention in the ultra aggro comedy group the Doug Anthony Allstars with Tim Ferguson and Richard Fidler
after their split in 1994, McDermott went on to write and perform in the musical MOSH.
After appearing in some Comedy Debates McDermott was soon to be seen as the host of ABCTV's Good News Weekin 1996
At the end of its first season the show was axed, only to be saved at the last minute.
In 1997 saw the show move to Sydney and also saw McDermott co-host the triple J breakfast show with Mikey Robins
1998 saw the show continue with another show, Good News Weekend, replace Roy &H.G whilst overseas. It was a huge success. Later that year McDermott and Foina Horne released 'Shut Up and Kiss Me' a song written by Paul and performed by them on Good News Weekend
Budget cuts at the ABC forced Good News Week to move to 10
along with its reincarnation of Good News Weekend as GNW Night Lite
Paul McDermott is also a writer for the Australian magazine and for the past three years has hosted the ARIAS, this year with Bob Downe (and wrongly criticised for it . . . what would musos know about comedy?)
