1965-1970
:
After Charterhouse School band Anon split up, two members Mike Rutherford and Ant Philips teamed up with rivals The Garden Wall (comprising Tony Banks and Peter Gabriel). Discovered and Christened by King, Genesis released it's first album 'From Genesis To Revelation'
1970 - 1975
:
Ant Philips and John Mayhew left Genesis as soon as their second album Tresspas was released. They were replaced by 12 stringer Steve Hackett and drummer Phil Collins. This foresome went on to produce Nursery Cryme, Selling England By The Pound and their most celebrated epic "Supper's Ready" from Foxtrot.
1975 / 76
:
The contraversial 'Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' was released and further mounted pressure on Genesis' already frustrated frontsman. Gabriel left the group after 'The Lamb'. Even though many were auditioned, Gabriel was replaced only by Phil Collins, who proved his vocal prowess on tracks like "Sqounk" and "Ripples" on their highly successful 1976 album 'A Trick Of The Tail"
1979 - 85
:
Genesis lost yet another member in Steve Hackett who felt that this presence was being felt lesser by each album. Hackett left after 1978's "Seconds Out" tour. The following year, Genesis recorded it's highest selling album in 'And Then There were Three", which had their first hit single - "Follow You, Follow Me"
1986-1990
:
Duke, Abacab and Genesis, were followed by the monster album - Invisible Touch, which reached the top of the album charts, gained Genesis three number 1 hit singles, 2 top 5 hits singles and a Grammy for The Best Concept Video (Land Of Confusion) :
1990 - 95
:
Progressive Rock band Genesis continued metamorphosizing into a mainstream commercial rock act with their 'We Can't Dance' of 1990, full with dance routines and all. A comprehensive global tour was launced which resulted in the recording of their next two albums : The Way We Walk Set
1995
:
Phil Collins leaves Genesis, because of building work pressure as a successful solo artist
1997-99
:
Ray Wilson replaced Phil Collins in the vocal department. "Calling All Stations" was released although it didn't do too well in America. "Turn It On Again : The Hits" was released which featured Carpet Crawlers 1999, a remake of the 1975 classic, born out of a brief reunion of Mike, Tony, Peter, Phil and Steve. The album raced upto number 3 on the British Charts
