http://us.imdb.com/Details?0146984It’s not a secret that I’m not a golfer, well, not a real golfer, I love playing golf video games. I’m not overly fond of Matt Damon, unless he’s in a Kevin Smith movie, and I’m not overly fond of Will Smith either. Charlize Theron though, damn, she’s good looking, and she is great in period pieces. So why did I go see this one? I don’t know. Mom asked if we’d like to go, and I said sure. I knew that my step-father Dennis would like it, because he is a great golfer, and truly loves the game. What I didn’t expect is that I’d actually like it too.
Oh it’s not a great piece of work, in fact, often times I felt that Mr. Redford was re-making The Natural, but it is entertaining, in a Hollywood sort of way. This is the type of movie that could actually have been made forty or fifty years ago, and there would have been few changes. Oh, I think the African-American roles would have been diminished, and there would be MUCH, MUCH more racism (there’s NONE in the movie as it stands, which I thought was very interesting.) Be that as it may, it’s well crafted and a fine example of Hollywood Filmmaking. It is what it is. Nothing great, nothing bad either. Nice costumes too. Did I mention that Charlize Theron looks hot in anything at all? Well she does. Meow.
My Rating: 3 ½ Stars out of 5.
