One of the screen's great, unlikely love stories. Hepburn and Bogart (in an Oscar-winning performance) are ideally cast as a self-important missionary and a drunkardly boat captain travelling down river in Bogart's small boat "The African Queen" during World War I. Charlie and Rose are one of the screen's great couples, perhaps because neither of them at the beginning of the film is particularly likable or appealing. It's a delight to see their mutual distate for one another grow into friendship and eventually love and to see them tranform themselves into better human beings. Shot on location in Africa, the film is full of unforgetable moments and images.  Perhaps the best movie by esteemed director John Huston. A great film about beautifully drawn, human, adult characters. This film demands multiple viewings.
