VINYL RATINGS
This section is devoted to bootleg LPs.  Other sources tend to use an alphabetical listing of available titles.  I've chosen to use the chronological method.  While many concerts have never been pressed on vinyl, the ones that have can be quite confusing to the collector.  This list should by no means be considered thorough, but it should serve as a fairly reliable guide to the dying breed of collectors that still pursue Led Zeppelin's concerts on vinyl.

For those interested in a simple guide to Led Zeppelin's
studio LPs, they can be found here in Discography.  Any suggestions and or corrections you feel belong can be emailed to me at the address posted on my main page.

1968/69:

12-30-68  This concert is available on "Alpha and Omega" (Rock Solid Records/International) in rather poor quality.  "Alpha and Omega" also includes a portion of their final US concert from 7-24-77 in Oakland.

01-10-69
"For Your Love" (RSR/Intl).  Nice quality cover but the photo is from 1977!?  Typical of boots.  Great early concert.  Mediocre quality & incomplete.

01-23-69
"Boston Tea Party 1969" (A&BRD&C)  includes the available 45 minutes in below avg sound quality.  Really nice cover.  Early pressings were made available in color vinyl.

01-26-69
"Killing Floor" (TMoQ) includes 43 minutes of this concert in decent sound quality (imbalanced but clean).  Well worth owning for the great performance.

01-31-69
"Realize" (Grasshopper) is an extremely rare and horrendous sounding Japanese acetate.  Reissued by Grasshopper as "Move On Out".  Collectors tend to love these acetates, but I'll never know why!

03-03-69
"Knebworth Fair Vol 1" and "In The Light 69-85" (Zipp Zapp) both include this performance in VG quality.

03-16-69
"Led Zeppelin" (K&S) and it's reissue "10th Anniversary" (Help) are great quality.  Reissued by (Toasted) as "Spare Parts".

03-17-69
"Danish Television March 1969" (RL Records) is a rare Japanese release in very good quality.

03-19-69  The track
Sunshine Woman can be found on an IMPOSSIBLY rare boot flexidisc.  A friend of mine owned this cheesy but sought after gem.

03-25-69
"Riverside Blues" has a portion of this in VG quality.  Available on yellow vinyl.

04-25-69  The relatively rare
"Caution Explosive" (Wizardo) haphazardly combines this with a portion of 9-4-70.  The sound quality is well below average, but the performance is great.

04-26-69
"Winterland" (RSR) is the best version of this sensational concert.  Also available in decent quality but less complete as "First Concert As The New Yardbirds" (TMoQ). This was reissued and made part of a package called "The Yardbirds Reform For The Marquee" (XL-1543).  "Unburied Dead Zeppo's Grave" (Creative Artistry) is very poor, as it plays extremely slow, requiring drastic pitch control to make it even somewhat listenable.

04-27-69  Soundboard source is available on numerous labels.
"Fillmore West 1969" (GLC) and "Moby Dick" (GLC) combine to present the whole tape in great quality.  (Jester) reissued these LPs in equal quality.  "It's Been A Long Time" (Songs For Swinging Mothers) is another fabulous set but extremely rare!  Comes with a wrist watch and was released in very tiny numbers.  "Metallic Opus" (Rec) is less complete and of slightly lesser quality.  "Flying High" (White Knight) is inferior.

06-24-69
"Complete BBC Performance" (Toasted), "Led Zeppelin" (K&S), "Knebworth Fair Vol Two" (K&S), "In The Light 69-75" (Zipp Zapp), et al, contain this performance in excellent quality.

06-27-69  Released well over a dozen times!  Recommended titles would be:
"Complete BBC Performances" (Toasted), "Dazed And Confused" (Royal Sound), "Hot London" (Kolne), and "Four Symbols" (Accord).  (Accord) reissued this twice, and many others exist: "Flight Of The Zeppelin" (Jolly Good Sound), "In The Light 69-75" (Zipp Zapp) , "Idolescence" (Volsung), et al.  Some of these are inferior to the recommended ones listed first.  AVOID "My Rider" (Idi Amin).  "Dazed and Confused" and "Four Symbols" are available, in limited edition, on color vinyl.

07-06-69
"Live At The Newport Jazz Festival" (LED) uses the source tape with clear instruments and buried vocals.  A nice concert, but the 45 minutes of music here are unnecessarily spread over two LPs.

07-21-69  Another great concert but with rather poor sound on vinyl.  This can be found complete (along with Milan'71) on the double picture disc set
"Central Park 1969" and "Central Park 69-Milan '71"  An incomplete recording can be found (in TERRIBLE quality) as "The Dirty Dozens" (Ass Records).  This is yet another of those super-rare and super-poor sounding Japan acetates.

07-25-69
"West Allison State" (GH 104) is another poor quality acetate.

08-08-69
"Summer Of 69" (Rubber Dubber) fair-poor quality, nice packaging.

08-31-69
"Texas International Pop Festival" (Oh Boy) is a must-have recording from the soundboard!  "Never Healed" (Idi Amin) has the audience recording in terrible quality.

10-12-69
"Live At The Lyceum" (Grant Musik) VG quality.  Re-issued as "London Live" (Right) in lesser quality.

1970:

01-09-70  The original (fair quality) radio broadcast was released as part of the 10 LP set "Strange Tales From The Road" (RSR/Intl)

03-11-70
"Life" or "Live" (Best) and "White Summer" (Marc) have VG- sound.  Reissued in poor quality as "White Summer" (Acid)

03-14-70
"Feel All Right" (Audio Recordings) is the best version.  A portion is available on "Knebworth Fair Vol 1" (K&S).  Avoid "Egg On Your Face" (Wonderwall) and "Montreaux Switzerland 1970" (SHZ).

03-21-70  Superb, original release
"Pb" is the very best but extremely rare (and expensive!)  Reissued as "Mudslide" at least 9 times.  Most of these are excellent, as well.  The best would be the first pressing by (TMQ)  Others of collectible note would be: Limited edition color vinyl on (Blue Ribbon) and the colored vinyl version on (Box Top) - both are from the original plates.  TMQ reissued this twice.  The following Mudslides are available from different plates:  (Mushroom), (GLC), and (Wizardo), as well as "Alive 1971" (TNT).  Finally, this is available (in inferior quality) as a picture disc entitled "Let Zip Hellin" (Amusing).

04-09-70
"Tampa Florida 1970 1 & 2" (Private Collection) are very rare acetates in good sound quality.  Part 1 contains Bring It Home, which is not found on the less rare... "Makundju" (Screaming Oiseau).  "Makundju" is pretty poor.  Get the source tape, it's a great show!

06-28-70
"Knock Oneself Out Volumes 1 & 2" (Magic Market) are poor.  Two tracks can be found on "Bath Festival" (which includes other acts) in good sound.

07-12-70
"Germany 1971" - below avg recording and misdated.

09-04-70  Another heavily bootlegged concert!
"Live On Blueberry Hill" (Blimp) and "Live At The LA Forum" (Rubber Dubber) are the best versions available.  These are from DIFFERENT source tapes and somewhat complement one another.  The Rubber Dubber title is slightly better, but it's very rare and difficult to find in great condition.  "Live On Blueberry Hill" was reissued many, many times.  From the original plates: TMQ rubber stamp with color vinyl, TMQ in generic jacket with hole, Blimp labels/color vinyl, Box Top, and as "Blueberry Hill" (K&S) and (Titanic).  The latter two are inferior pressings. Also released umpteen times from different plates: (Zeppelin), (Godzilla), (Abstract), (Mushroom), (LED), (Del Pez), et al.  Portions of this concert can be found on many other titles, usually as filler.  Some, such as "Gone To California" (Dittolino), are reissues of just half the original.

09-09-70  Last 25 minutes of this concert can be found on
"207.19" (RSR) with 3-21-75.

04-01-71  This is it - the performance that has been released the most times on vinyl.  Unfortunately, none are truly complete.
"The Complete BBC Performances" (Toasted) is fairly close and great quality.  "BBC Broadcast" (TMQ) was the 1st release of this performance and was subsequently reissued endlessly.  Most releases of this title have good sound and are acceptable if the price is right.  "BBC Transcription Service" (BBCTS) has superb sound. "71" (Creative Artistry) is very good but has separation. "BBC Zep" (Contraband) is great and is another title that is endlessly reissued but often in slightly lesser quality.  Many titles, such as "Idolescence" and "Stairway To Heaven," combine one of the 69 BBC shows with this one, in part or whole.  Inferior versions would be "Ballcrusher" (Flat) and the strangely titled "BBC Zep Royal Albert Hall" which should be avoided altogether.

05-03-71  A great concert with surprise performances of the songs Four Sticks and Gallows Pole.  These songs (and only these songs) are captured on a rare 10" record titled
"Live In Copenhagen" (RSR)  Pressed on color vinyl and backed with Dazed and Confused from Staines 1969 (as seen on the boot video).

07-03-71
"Blow One's Cool" (Grasshopper) is a poor sounding acetate.  "Central Park 69-Milan 71" picture disc is fair.

09-14-71  A splendid concert and the ultimate bootleg!
"Going To California" was originally released on colored vinyl with numbered labels.  This title, along with "Going To California" (TMQ) with deluxe cartoon cover depicting band on a flying pig AND "Going To California" (TMQ) with insert and color vinyl would be the recommended titles to get.  This same title is available on (Box Top), (Raring), (Contraband), and (Mammary). "LA Forum" (numbered labels - no company), though incorrect about location, has great sound and is from the original plates. "Crazy Nights" (Digger) also contains this recording.  "Halfway To California" (Vikingmusik) is a reissue of sides 2 & 4 of the original and has been reissued itself as "Goin West" (Instant Anaysis).

09-23-71  Great concert overlooked by the bootleggers.  A snippet (2 songs) of this concert can be found on the extremely rare Japanese boot
"In Concert" (OG660) though the sound is only 'fair'.

09-24-71  Two songs - Stairway and GTC - are on
"In Concert" (OG); fair quality, see above.

09-27-71
"Hiroshima Pts 1 & 2" (Gell) are fairly poor sounding acetates and extremely rare. "Hiroshima Live In Japan 1971 1 & 2" (TMoUFO) are terrible.

09-28-71
"71-72 Digest" (Digger) contains about 37 minutes of this concert in VG sound quality.  This set also has portions of 10-2 and 10-4-72.  Packaging includes a poster and rubber stamped panties!  A rarity.

09-29-71
"Japan Tour 71" (BUG) has the recording commonly mistaken as being from the SB - great quality.  "Cellarful Of Noise" (Kornyphone) uses the other great audience source, but there are terrible speed problems ruining the quality.  "Live In Osaka 9/29/71 1 & 2" (GLC) and "Osaka 9/29/71 1 & 2" (RSR) have speed corrected versions and are highly recommended.  (I prefer my vinyl over my various CDs and tapes!) "Live In Japan 1971" (LZL) is excellent.  Reissues such as the acetate on (UFO) & (TMoUFO) are of lesser quality but not 'bad'.

1972:

02-20-72 "Kooyong Tennis Courts" (72169D-E) combine the first 45 minutes of this concert with Milan 71 and Live Aid.  Quality is 'fair'.  "Count Me Out When It's Hot" (Taiwan) is slightly inferior and very rare.

06-22-72
"Berdu" (Screaming Oiseau) is good/fair quality.

06-25-72
"LA '72" (TT02) is incomplete but VG quality.  "A Night At The Heartbreak Hotel" (Artemis) is slightly lesser quality and is also incomplete.  Recommended show on tape or CD.

06-27-72
"Studio Daze" has two tracks from the soundboard: Dancing Days and What Is And What Should Never Be.

10-02-72
"Live At The Budokan" (Remember) is the best version.  Reissued as "Live At Budokan '72" (New OG). "Live In Tokyo 10/2/72" (Amazing Stork) and (Toasted) are also VG and available on colored vinyl.  "Live In Tokyo Oct 2-3 1972 Budokan Big Hall" (LLX -) has the ending of the show in nice quality.

10-03-72
"Live In Tokyo Oct 2-3 1972 Budokan Big Hall" is very good quality.  See above.

10-04-72
"71-72 Digest" (Digger), as referred to earlier, contains about 25 minutes of this concert in terrible quality.

10-05-72
"Squeeze Me" (Ass Records) is a poor sounding acetate and very rare.

10-09-72  Originally issued as
"Live" on a japanese lp, with no company/label.  Excellent quality and extremely rare.  Reissued as "My Brain Hurts" (Idle Mind) in very good quality.  Early pressings were on green vinyl.  Also reissued (on color vinyl) as part of the (LXXXIV) series; as "Dedicated To John Henry Bonham"; and as "My Brain Hurts" on (Jester).

12-22-72  A chunk of the 1st half of this concert can be found on
"Alexandra Palace" (LZ1972) in VG quality, but the recording plays fast.  "Riot House" (Jump) has a good portion of the second half in VG+ quality.  This is available on colored vinyl and as a B&W picture disc.  And lastly, (Toasted) released a 2LP set called "People" which has Zeppelin's 1976 cover appearance on that magazine as the album cover shot.  Quality is VG.

1973:

01-14-73  A soundboard recording of the last 20 minutes of this concert can be found on "Trouble At The Front" (Tropo) along with the Dundee 73 SB and the Death Wish outtakes.

01-27-73  The final two tracks - Heartbreaker & Communication Breakdown - can be found on
"Trouble At The Front" (Tropo) see above.  SB recording.

03-14-73
"Live In Nuremburg 1973" (Private Collection) is a rare, 'fair' sounding acetate.

03-16-73
"Lead Poisoning" (RW-2) has 45 minutes of this great show in okay quality.  "Wrench In The Works" (Screaming Oiseau) uses the better audience recording as it's source and is nearly complete, with only TSRTS and Heartbreaker missing.  "Whole Lotta Rock" (RW-2) is a re-issue of "Led Poisoning".

03-19-73
"A Good Job: Inedits Volume 6" (LZ73) has Dazed & Confused and Whole Lotta Love in great quality.

03-22-73
"Live in Essen West Germany 1973 Vols 1 & 2" (Magic Market) contains all of what exists of the audience recording.  The quality is terrible.  The CD from the soundboard is a must have!

03-24-73
"Custard Pie" (RSR/Intl) contains the nearly the complete show in VG-EX sound quality.  Nice cover too.  "No Page Unturned" (Wendheath) combines the Whole Lotta Love medley with the Fillmore 69 SB - unnecessary.

05-05-73
"Quantient" (Sad Songs) contains the complete concert in mediocre sound quality.  "The Beat Goes On Inedits Volume 4" (BEAT) is fair to poor and plays at the wrong spped.

05-18-73
"Fractured Ribs" (Toasted) Excellent recording from the soundboard.

05-31-73  The ORIGINAL
"Bonzo's Birthday Party" (TMQ) was in the deluxe cover depicting the pig on the birthday cake, and was on black vinyl.  This was reissued from the original plates by: (TMQ) in a rubber stamped jacket with color vinyl; by (Box Top) on colored vinyl, and by (K&S) on multi-colored vinyl. Additional re-issues found on (Titanic) and (Berkeley).  Portions of the recording can be found elsewhere on compilation boots, such as "Sin City Social" (K&S).

06-02-73
"Persistence" (Roon Dog) VG- quality.

06-03-73
"Three Days After" (TMQ) contains the last 85 minutes of this concert in VG quality.  This was re-issued from the original plates as "Three Days After" by (RSR) and (Toasted), and as "Atomic Asteroid".  Also available on (Titanic).

07-12-73
"Detroit Cobo Hall" (LED1-4) is a rare 2LP set from Japan.  Quality is listenable but somewhat poor.

07-17-73  Very confusing date.  At least *I* am confused!  Initially released as
"V-1/2 Led Zeppelin Performed Live In Seattle" by (Highway HiFi).  Reissued by (TMQ) in various forms, such as "V1/2" and "Live In Seattle 73 Tour"   Did TMQ make the HH release?  I don't know.  Also reissued as "On Tour" (Berkeley) & (Black Gold), "Seattle 73" (Phoenix), "Seattle Daze" (Box Top), and "Live In Seattle 1973" (Wind).  Regardless, I've heard two vinyl versions (Original and TMQ Seattle title), and they sound similar.  VG/VG-.

07-28-73
"Duck Walks And Lasers" (RSR) 1st pressings on red vinyl.  Later re-issued by (Box Top) and (RSR) on black vinyl.  This is an excellent SB recording adding a portion of Fort Worth '77 to make a double LP.

1975:

01-20-75
"Live At The Chicago Stadium" (Digger) - fair quality, and "Live On The Levee" (RSR) - good quality.  "Levee" later re-issued by (Box Top).

01-21-75
"Live At The Chicago Stadium" (Digger) and "Live On The Levee" (RSR) - see above - are a combination of both nights in Chicago.

01-29-75
"Greensboro 75" and/or "Kashmir Wizards" (Swan) - fair quality.

01-31-75
"Detroit Just About Back" (King Kong) - poor quality.

02-06-75  Best version is
"Legerdomain" (Kornyphone) VG but with fake stereo. "World Tour 1975" (Kornyophone) uses higher generation of same source tape - poor. Also available in poor quality as "Montreal 75" (Phoenix).

02-07-75
"Trampled Underfoot" (Cream Of The Crop) is very rare, good quality. "Plant Waves" (Wizardo) combines a portion of this concert with a part of Detroit 75 - fair/poor quality.

02-12-75
"In Person" and "In Concert" (RSR) together cover a nice chunk of this good concert in very good quality.  Limited early pressings of both were made available on color vinyl.  "In Concert" includes ARMS material as filler.  These were re-issued on black vinyl, and then re-issued again by - who else? - (Box Top) as "Live In Madison Square Garden 1 & 2". Finally, this is available as "Live At Madison Square Garden 1975" (Zep Toepper)  The first 100 copies were on colored vinyl.  Quality is VG-.

02-13-75
"Nassau Coliseum NY 1975" (SH3 109) good quality acetate.

02-28-75
"Led Astray" (Artemis)  Very good quality.

03-04-75
"Trampled Underfoot" (Swinging Pig) & "Live In Dallas 1975" (Toasted) Superb soundboard recording!

03-11-75
"How Many More Times" (Moby's Dick) VG quality but speed problems - plays fast.

03-12-75
"Live In Long Beach 1975" runs from No Quarter until the encores.  Many cuts, as they are on the master, and the quality is terrible.  Avoid, unless you are a sucker for acetates.

03-21-75
"207.19" and "214" (RSR) together cover 155 minutes of this legendary concert.  The quality is VG+-EX.

03-25-75
"Pb II The Only Way To Fly"

05-17-75
"Welcome To Home 1-4" (Private Collection) RARE Japanese acetates in very poor quality.  Avoid.

05-18-75
"No Quarter" (Red Devil) is a very good recording, and a very rare LP.

05-23-75
"The Awesome Foursome Live At Earl's Court" (The World Joker) is a really cool package containing nearly the full concert in decent sound quality, as well as a repo of the concert programme, and 4 differently colored LPs.  It is also available as a picture disc set.

05-24-75  Another confusing date.  With 2 different aud recordings and a soundboard, there are numerous variations, reissues, etc.
"Earl's Court" and "Earl's Court II" (Europe) has great sound quality but song separation.  This was re-issued in inferior quality and in parts, making matters more confusing.    (Europe) 1st pressings can be distinguished by the matrix #s: LZL19775 & LZL1975II. "Rock & Roll" (Waggle) contains 75 minutes from the soundboard on 2 LPs - excellent quality.

1977:

04-09-77
"Strange Tales From The Road" (RSR) has the full performance. "Sick Again" is missing most of Since I've Been Loving You.  Both titles have below average sound.

04-27-77
"Destroyer" (DRGM); 2 versions: The European issue comes in  a color jacket with Page on cover.  The US version comes in a nifty plastic carrying case.  Both are from the superb soundboard recording, but the European issue is superior.  Both versions have songs out of sequence. "Sweet Jelly Roll" (RSR) is a superb sounding reissue.  This, in turn, was made available as a set of 4 sepia picture discs.  Other versions: "Destroyer (Swinging Pig), "Nobody's Fault But Mine" (Sad Song) and "Hard Way To Heaven" (UNI).  Hard Way is incomplete and includes Live Aid material.

04-28-77
"The Destroyer" (Smilin Ears) is a 4LP box set that covers *almost* the entire show.  The sound quality is very good.

05-22-77
"Duck Walks And Lasers" (RSR) has the last 60 minutes in VG sound.

05-30-77
"Destroyer III" (DREAZ) is 'fair' and almost complete. "Hot Tracks Vols 1-4" (Rock And Roll) is an inferior Japanese release (s).

06-03-77
"Strange Tales From The Road" (RSR)

06-10-77
"Hiawatha Express" (Stash) includes a soundboard recording of Ten Years Gone and Battle Of Evermore.

06-19-77
"Live In San Diego" (Starlight) avg quality.

06-21-77
"Listen To This Eddie" (RSR) First 66 minutes of the concert in EXCELLENT sound quality.  The first 500 copies were pressed on color vinyl.  Also re-issued by (Intl) and (Box Top).  "Listen To This Eddie Vol 2" is a rare Japanese acetate that covers latter songs not on the famous "LTTE" above.  Unfortunately, the sound quality is poor - typical of the junky acetates.

06-23-77
"For Badgeholders Only Part One" and "For Badgeholders Only Part 2" (Dragonfly) offer a good portion of this superb concert in excellent quality.  The source is different than any known tape/CD source, thus making this a MUST.  This was re-issued from the same plates on color vinyl (LXXXVI series) and from different plates (OMRS).  Volume 1 was reissued as "Badgeholders" (Amazing Stork).

06-27-77
"Inglewood Forum"

07-24-77
"The Last Brawl" (H&A Productions) incomplete and poor quality. "Alpha and Omega" (RSR) more complete and VG- sound.

1979:

07-23-79
"Melancholy Danish Pageboys Get It On" (Danskmusic) Very good quality.  Re-issued on color vinyl (Empire).

07-24-79
"Copenhagen Warm Ups" (Geiko Sukui) is a 3 record set covering the complete concert and in excellent quality.  The last disc was reissued as a picture disc (Empire). Also available as "In The Evening" (Dane) is lesser quality.

08-04-79  At least 8 titles cover parts of this concert, probably more.
"Knebworth: Complete and Uncut" (Amazing Stork) is the best version.  It is almost truly complete, and the quality is very good.

08-11-79  Again, multiple titles available.
"Knebworth II" (Al Capone) is best version.  Excellent sound quality and nearly complete.

1980:

06-17-80
"Live in Dortmund West Germany 1980" (SH2-)  Japanese acetate, poor sound.

06-18-80
"Live In Cologne 1980" (Hot Dog) is the complete audience recording in decent quality.  Very rare.  Also very rare is a horrendous colored acetate titled "Live In West Germany 1980 Pts 1 & 2" (Magic Market).

06-20-80
"Platinum" (Waggle) and "Moonlight" (Waggle) together contain the complete recording from the SB.  "Moonlight" also contains the beginning of the Frankfurt 6/30 recording - also from the soundboard.  This was part of a 3 double LP set that appeared in late '88, after the theft of Jimmy's Masters.  See 6/23 & 6/30.  Also available as a 3LP set on (Swinging Pig) as "Brussels Affair".

06-21-80
"Live In Rotterdam" (Swinging Pig) excellent quality SB.

06-23-80
"Swinging The Lead Inedits Vol 5" (ZEP) and "Footstomping Music: Inedits Vol 7" (Inedits)  together cover the full show from a mediocre audience recording.  A portion of the soundboard recording can be found on "Dinosaur" and "Moonlight".

06-26-80
"All Good Things Go By Three: Inedits Volume 3" (Wein) contains a portion of the audience recording in fair quality.

06-29-80
"Swiss Made" (S 8006) was the first album to be released from the 1980 tour.  This is the audience recording in decent quality.  This was reissued as "Last Bonzo" (S-8006) and "Zeppelin Over Europe - Eye Thank Yew" (Happy Hippo).  *RECOMMENDED is the soundboard recording "Live In Zurich" (Toasted).  This includes Whole Lotta Love from Berlin, which is missing from the "Last Stand" title.

06-30-80
"Dinosaur" contains the rest of the soundboard recording started on "Moonlight".  A superb recording and a very good performance.

07-02-80
"Zoso 80" (ZM-278) Incomplete audience recording in decent quality. Re-issued as "Handsome Zeppelin Display Is Actually Iron Lung" ?! (Kankakee)

07/07/80
"Last Stand" (Toasted) is the excellent soundboard recording. "Bonzo's Last Ever Gig" (Z-8077) has an incomplete audience recording with listenable sound quality.  This is very rare and unnecessary to own, as this is available from the soundboard AND was reissued by (Amazing Stork) with a second, better audience recording for filler.
