Review: The worst thing about Chainsaw 4 is that while it was filmed to be released in the theaters, it plays like a direct-to-video movie; i.e., it's a piece of shit.
These four teens go to the prom, them run over a guy, and then meet The Family. All of what happens in-between is pretty stupid. In fact, it's all really stupid. Leatherface doesn't actually use his chainsaw on anyone, so this isn't really a "chainsaw massacre." But, hey, it's got Matthew McConaughy...in a really bad role...
This movie just sucked.
Trivia: The original title, Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, was changed to Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation when Columbia/Tristar distributed the picture. It was never actually released under the original title. However, when Tristar distributed the movie, they also cut a good number scenes from the film, altering it. Therefore, the majority of Chainsaw fans consider Return.. to be the official version of the film, with Next Generation just being the watered-down version.
The film was actually shot in 1994, but did not get released to theaters until August of 1997 (goes to show you how bad the slasher genre was doing prior to the release of Scream in late 1996).
