Review: Friday the 13th Part 3 picks up immediately following the events of part 2, with Jason's body slowly coming back to life. Before long, a new group of kids shows up at Camp Crystal Lake (now well-known as "Camp Blood"). The only new twist in the formula comes from a gang of bikers who are thrown into the story to make for extra death scenes. The rest of the formula is the same, only with a few slightly more inventive death sequences (one involving an exploding eyeball!).
At the time Friday the 13th Part 3 was made, America was witnessing a very short-lived revival of the 3-D format, which makes it look as though things are coming out of the screen. Paramount recognized the possibilites and filmed part 3 in 3-D, and many of the shots in the film are blatant uses of a the format (such as the aforementioned popping eye). The only version availble on video, however, is unfortunately not in 3-D.

Trivia: Friday the 13th Part 3 was originally released under the title Friday the 13th Part 3-D, but was changed when the 3-D format became passe. It was also the only Friday film to be shot in Panavision (2.35:1) Widescreen format. Part 3 is also the first time Jason dons his trademark hockey mask--which would only come off his face for the necessary "surprise mug shot" at the end of every film that followed part 3.
