Review: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was actually supposed to be the final chapter. Paramount was all prepared to kill off Jason Voorhees, and this was their attempt to do it in style--and it works. This is one of the best (if not the best) Friday movies, because it introduces a slightly new angle to the story. Yes, a whole new crop of teenagers show up at Camp Crystal Lake (which is no longer a camp, but a couple of cabins available for rent). Yes, they get slaughtered in new and creative ways. But along with the usual teens comes 1, a bounty hunter looking to kill Jason for good, and 2, a child (played by Corey Feldman) with a love of horror. In young Tommy, Jason finally meets his match.
Tommy is the only person who is able to realize just what's going on inside of Jason's mind, and is therefor able to destract him long enough for his older sister to imbed a machete in his skull, killing him for good.
Tom Savini once again did the special effects for Part 4, truly believing that it was going to be the final film in the series.
But when the film opened to huge box-office, Paramount couldn't resist. The original plan had been to kill off Jason for good, but have the series continue in a new format with Tommy as the killer. But Paramount thought of a more inventive (and profitable) way to do this. What they devised was another Jason film, but one "without Jason". Intrigued? Then read on: Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning.
