Review: The plan had been to kill of Jason in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and have his killer Tommy Jarvis become the new killer in Part V, but Paramount just couldn't resist another Jason flick--but there's a catch to this one.
It's not actually Jason who does the killing in Part V, but a medic who goes a little nuts after seeing his own child chopped to bits. He dons the Jason image and does away with a whopping number of people (Part V has the highest on-screen body count of the entire series--Part VIII has a higher body count, but not all of the victims died on-screen).
Paramount got the best of both worlds with Part V. The audience believed it was Jason doing the killing all the way up to the end, and then in the final "shock", it was revealed that Tommy would become the killer in the next film. Unfortunately, someone decided to change their mind by the time Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives! came along.
Trivia: Corey Feldman was originally supposed to play Tommy throughout the entire film, but was already working on The Goonies, and so was only able to do the opening scene.
