Review: Somehow, the notion of Tommy Jarvis continuing the Friday series as the killer got passed by in favor of another Jason movie. Seems people liked Tommy too much as the hero, and so instead of him being the killer in Part VI, Tommy is Jason's arch-nemesis.
That's not to say that Part VI doesn't work. In fact, it works better than Part V--just not the way everyone expected (or wanted) it to.
Jason gets struck by lightning and is brought back to life in his coolest resurrection scene of the entire series. He then plunges his hand through the chest of Tommy's friend, before turning his eyes to Tommy. We are then greeted by a hilarious parody of the trademark James Bond opening, as Jason marches onto the screen, then flings a machete towards us, exploding into the film's title.
In fact, much of Part VI is actually humorous. There's a great scene with a bunch of yuppies playing paintball in the woods, and then another where a woman gets her head shoved through a mirror, making an impression in the shape of her face.
In the end, Tommy succeeds (or so he thinks) in ridding the world of Jason. He is thus able to get rid of all of the personal demons that have been haunting him for years and move on with his life. But he forgets that Jason, though incapacitated, is still alive...and just waiting for Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood.
