Review: Movie House Massacre is one quirky, odd little flick. It's not the type of movie you normally would tell someone else to see (after all, if you're not a slasher fan, it's hard to tolerate a lot of the bad slasher flicks out there), and yet, it's a film that I can almost guarantee everyone will enjoy. There's so much bizzare stuff in this movie, so much cheesy dialogue, it's just bound to bring a smile to your face.
The Spotlight Theatre chain has just purchased a new one-screen movie house where horrible things seem to happen on a fairly regular basis. The last time the theater was open, many many people were slaughtered. Yet, the Spotlight owner perseveres and sees the profit that can be gained by refurbishing the theater, and sends his top employees to oversee this task. What those employees find is a movie theater plagued not only with a killer with a knife, but also ghosts!
Now the plot doesn't sound that bad (granted, it might not sound that great either, but it's not that bad), but the execution of this film just garners nothing but the strongest gut laughs I've ever made while watching a slasher movie (now that may be a generous statement, but at the moment, only Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 comes to mind as a challenger to that title). In addition to the usual staples of the genre (gratuitous murders, gratuitous nudity, bad acting, bad dialogue), there's also these weird spurts of music, flashy, horrible clothes, and this odd sound effect of a whip cracking (or SOMETHING like that) that they keep playing whenever somebody makes a snappy comeback or a scene changes! It's just bizarre!
But damn is it fun. The film's lacking in the blood and gore content, but totally makes up for it in the humor realm. That sound effect just kills me. Enjoy this one.
