Review: Along with Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Nightmare 4 stands out to me as one of the prime examples of a slasher movie. This is my favorite film of the Nightmare Series. It has everything: teenagers, great dialogue, awesome death scenes, a cool, empowering story, a great 80s soundtrack, and lots and lots of black humor.
Picking up where Dream Warriors ended, we find that the three surviving warriors are still trying to deal with life post-Krueger. In fact, Kristen is not so sure that Freddy's truly dead. When he does come back to them in their dreams, they're easy pickings, despite Kristen's talent of pulling other people into her dreams. She passes her powers onto her new best friend, Alice. Alice begins to absorb the character qualities of everyone Freddy kills, and in the end, she reigns as the Dream Master.
Nightmare boasts the best special effects of the series, as well as the coolest death scenes. It's a true visual treat, and has probably Freddy's best death scene thus far in the series.
