Review: This movie sucks. It was great to see a new Nightmare film in theaters, and it's admirable what Craven tries to do by bringing the series to a new psychological level, but this movie just fails again and again.
New Nightmare takes place in the "real world" where Heather Langenkamp plays Heather Langenkamp, not "Nancy." Robert Englund plays Robert Englund, not "Freddy." The film shows how the actors lives have been affected by their work in the series, and how now that Freddy is "dead," he is no longer restrained by the context of the movies. He can enter "out" world and do some damage here.
Like I said, it's a cool idea, and it works, to a degree, but the movie just sucked. Heather Langenkamp's puke scene is about the only really cool part. Just....sucked.
Trivia: Heather Langenkamp actually had a real-life person stalking her with phone calls and messages after she hit it big in the first Nightmare on Elm Street. This film is partially based on those experiences. Also, during the filming, a large earthquake struck the Los Angeles area. Rather than suffer from setbacks, Craven worked the earthquake into the story and managed to get the movie done on time. Too bad it sucked.
