Review: Eric was an average teenager who was in love with his average girlfriend, but unfortunately for Eric, his life was altered by a greedy land developer who wanted his parents' land. As a result, a fire was started at Eric's house one night, one that Eric didn't escape from....or did he?
Phantom of the Mall is one of those movies that everybody's seen on the shelves at the video store but never thought they would actually rent. Well, one night I did, and I was pleasantly surprised.
First of all, Pauly Shore is in this movie. This alone is worth a few sardonic grins. Second, Ken Foree, who starred in the other horror movie set in a mall, Dawn of the Dead, plays a security guard.
Third, this is a pretty decent updating of the Phantom of the Opera story, by setting the action in a brand new mall....hmmmmm, greedy land developer, brand new mall...I sense a plot coming on here.
The deaths aren't great, the characters aren't great, but all-in-all, there's a lot of fun to be had in this flick. And I don't know if any other movie captures the essence of 1989 in a better way.
