Review: Prom Night begins with a really disturbing, dreamlike sequence involving a group of kids playing a game in an abandoned school building. A girl their age stumbles upon the game, and the friendly kids decide to let her play...making her the victim.
Years later, the dead girl's younger sister (Curtis) is all set to be crowned prom queen. Her friends--the four responsible for the little girl's death--are now also grown up, and throughout the morning of the prom they receive threatening phone calls.
It all comes to a head at the prom that night, as a guy in a black suit and ski mask takes an axe and begins a trail of bloody revenge.
Prom Night isn't really all that bad, but it's not really all that good, either. It has its elements, and all of the fundamentals are met--it just doesn't groove quite like it should...however, the film did pave the way for a successful trio of sequels...well, semi-successful, anyway.
