Review: Returning to the serious realm of horror, Prom Night IV starts off okay, but never quite takes off. It's the story of two couples who ditch the prom on decide to have their own prom at the summer home of one of the guys. There's some beautiful locations in the movie, and the whole idea of having a private prom is really neat...but the movie dies really quick--as soon as the killer shows up, in fact. The killer this time (yes, that's right, another new story arch for this series, completely different than the other two) is a priest who punishes teens for having sex (how original). He tracks the four down to the house, murders them, and gets into the chase scene rut with the final surviving chick. You probably won't be awake to see who wins, but it doesn't really matter, because the "shocking payoff" at the end is neither shocking nor a payoff.
Trivia: Look closely in the opening prologue and you'll see a bunch of stock footage from Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II.
