Review: First of all, no, you didn't miss anything--Return to Horror High is not a sequel (there was a movie released under the name Horror High, but it was in 1974 and had absolutely nothing to do with the slasher genre).
The "Return" portion of the title refers to the fact that the site of a gruesome on-campus slaughter is being revisited by a movie crew so that the story of the massacre can be told in a film.
This is where things get really interesting. This movie is bad, don't get me wrong--it's slow, the acting is bad, the scripting is even worse, and the ending leaves....well, let's just say, I fell asleep the first time I watched this, and I almost wish I had fallen asleep the second time I viewed it.
But hidden within all of the crap is some really cool stuff. For instance, the movie juxtaposes back-and-forth between showing the making of the film about the massacre and the events of the film themselves--in movie-format. So it draws you into the story of the original slaying, then pulls you right back out of it and into the story of the second massacre--this time on the set of the movie. The film is very self-referential, and employees a lot of humor--perhaps too much, sense it seems to come off as way too campy.
Though it's definitely late night USA-Network fare, Return To Horror High does offer some laughs and some nice deaths--and hey, it's George Clooney's big-screen debut.
