Long before the child-eating Cabbage Patch doll and the riot-inducing Furbies, parents had a much more threatening concern to deal with around the Christmas season--movies. When Silent Night, Deadly Night was released in 1984, it caused an uproar with parents' groups pissed off at the notion of a killer in a Santa Claus suit. Some areas banned the movie completely, others let a censored version be screened (the video version is the full complete cut). The film was followed by a sting of unsuccessful sequels that never managed to capture the furor that the original had--for better or worse.
