Review: What a kick-ass slasher movie!
I didn't have really great expectations when I rented Slaughter High, but wow--I was blown away. Don't get me wrong, I mean, this isn't Oscar material (but with the way the Oscar people pick movies these days, who cares?). It's still a really exploitative piece of cinematic garbage, but it's damn fun.
Slaughter High is essentially kind of a mix between The Big Chill and Friday the 13th. A really large group of teens plays a prank on a nerd named Marty during their senior year of high school. When they get caught and punished for the prank, they devise an even more cruel trick and eventually send poor Marty to the hospital with a horribly disfigured face.
Five years later, each of the teens receives an invitation to a high school reunion, but when they arrive, they find the place deserted--they are the only guests at this reunion.
This is where Slaughter High begins to follow the usual slasher path, but it does so pretty well. The body count is huge for a non-sequel slasher flick, and the deaths are bloody and gruesome (a lot of them involving poisonous chemicals).
Don't be expecting Lawrence of Arabia, but give Slaughter High a chance next time you're looking for good slasher entertainment.
Trivia: The music for Slaughter High was composed by Harry Manfredini, the same composer of the original Friday the 13th.
