Review: One of the most enjoyable slasher experiences I've had in the past few years was finding this movie. There's a story behind Sleepaway Camp 2--not a really good story, but one that's personal to me. A long time ago, when I was a kid, I saw the poster for this flick which showed Angela carrying a backpack with a chainsaw, hockey mask, and Freddy's glove sticking out, with the tagline, "When you go camping, bring the essentials." I was hooked--I had to see this movie. But until just recently, I was unable to find it anywhere.
So how did it hold up to my expectations? Pretty well, actually. In fact, this is the best of the three Sleepaway Camp movies.
The story picks up many years after the first film, with Angela now on the counseling side at a camp near the one from the first movie. She's just as weird as she used to be, though she does finally speak in this film. In addition to all of the bizzare Angela stuff, this film is chock full of classic dialogue, gratuitous blood and nudity, and many other things that made the slasher heyday great. Enjoy this movie, if you can find it.
Oh, and did I mention the truly kick-ass 80s rock soundtrack? (featuring Hurricane and the Dead Milkmen)
Trivia: Also known as Nightmare Vacation II.
