Green Day |
On Saturday, January 27th, I got to see one of my absolute favorite bands: Green Day While I was there, I was smashed, kicked in the head, pushed, smothered, and I almost broke my arm, but it was worth it, because I saw Green Day. They played all my favorite songs, and I almost touched the lead singer, and probably the hottest guy ever: Billie Joe Armstrong. I loved it, and every time I got kicked or pushed, the show got better. Let me start at the begining. |
I went to the concert with my friend Lauren, and we arrived at the Brady Theater about 6-6.30ish. When we got there it was raining freezing rain, and it was extremely cold outside. The doors were schedualed to open at 7, keep this in mind. We waited outside in the freezing rain, and we watched as the security gaurds would walk up, and then walk off again. (I didn't actually see the guards, but we knew that they were there by eveybody's cheering, and we knew that they had left by everybody's booing and cursing). Finally, 7 rolls around, and the guards open the door..about five inches before shutting it again. They did this about four or five times, while everyone outside gets even wetter and colder. We were all pretty pissed at them for doing that (I could see them playing with their flashlights while we were freezing outside). Around 7.20, they finally open the doors, but we didn't get in for another 15 mintues or so because they only opened one door. When I get up there, I saw that they were frisk searching people for cameras and other stuff. I saw this and sort've freaked out (just a little bit), because I had a brand new disposable camera in one of my pockets. Now, I am extremely stupid, because there was a chance that they would frisk us, but I didn't think they would because it was Brady indoor, so I had this camera in my pocket, and when I saw that they were frisking, I didn't have enough time to put it in my underwear or sock. So, I lost my camera. (Which was a shame, because I could've had some real good shots of Billie Joe.) Ah well, all I cared about keeping was my money, and cellphone. So, we go inside and the line to buy merchandice was about 50 miles long, so we went ahead and went inside the theater. We had GA (general admission) so we could go wherever we wanted, and we went right up front. This would've been perfect and fine if it weren't for this one tall guy who had his arms spread over the gate, because of this, Lauren and I couldn't get up to the gate, and hold on for our dear little lives. (This tall guy was a huge pain throughout the whole show, because he was there, I endded up right behind him, and couldn't see sometimes, he would jump up and down and hit me, and he would push on my arm when I grabbed onto the gate, and..I'll explain in a sec.) The show starts, and the Get Up Kids were the opening band. Excellent band, I recomend. But the crowd was practically dead throughout their performance, which was nice for the little people (like me). When Green Day came on, the crowd went crazy (not excluding me on this :) Their first song was "Nice Guys Finish Last", and Billie Joe came over and stood right infront of where I was. Somehow I managed to push through the people and get one hand on the gate, and I never let go from then on. Lauren, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky, and got pulled back by the crowd. :( They went on, and I was tried of having to stand on my toes (thanks to that tall guy), and I started feeling sick. (I had forgotten to take my medicine that's supposed to stop that) And everytime I would start to feel better, that tall guy would start jumping, and he would hit me everytime he jumped. So I hit him as hard as I could in his back, which was nice, but then he would push back against me, while everyone behind me would push forward, and I would get squeezed so hard. This happened many times, and I really, really don't like that tall guy. The show went on, and right before "Blood, Sex, and Booze", Billie Joe pointed out that his mom lives 10 minutes away from Tulsa, and that his whole family was there. (He then dedicated the next song to his mom, heh.) During the song "King For A Day", Billie Joe came out with a crown on his head, and he got someone else to play his guitar so he ran around the stage the whole time. At one point (this was my favorite part of the whole night), he came over and stood infront of where I was (which he did often, and made me very, very happy), and he held out his hand while he was singing, and I started reaching for him, like I did everytime he came over, and I almost touched him! |
I almost touched that man! I was about two inches from his hand, and had I jumped then I would've touched him. Unfortunatly, he walked away right after that, but..that was the best part of the whole night. In the middle of the show, they started playing an Operation Ivy song, and in the middle of that, Billie Joe stopped it and did something that has never happened on a stage in Tulsa. They picked three random people from the crowd, and had them come up and play that song. It was really neat and cool and everything, but poor little me was smothered during this, because I was surrounded by tall people and they all started pushing and jumping to be picked, and I just let them do it. (I'm such a woosie :) While I was being squished, I noticed that one of the guards in front of the stage looked like Mark McGuire from the St. Louis Cardinals, |
and another looked like Julius Sermonia from Cats. It was kinda freaky..but neat, I guess. The show was endding, and Billie Joe thanked us over and over for comming out, and then he said that they'd come back, and that they "Aren't Green Day from Oakland anymore, but Green Day from Oklahoma." (Heh, I thought that was cool.) So they walk off the stage, and, of course, we're demanding an encore. So Green Day comes back out, and they played a 6 song encore. They played the songs "Playtapus", "Waiting" (which is my absolute favorite song, and after they played that, they could've cussed us out and left, and I'd still be happy.), "Good Riddance", "Minority" (this song lasted about 15 minutes, but it was cool), "Warning", and they finished with "Macy's Day Parade". This concert was the best ever, and I loved it so much. The only things I can think of that would've made it better would be: for that tall guy to be gone, and for that tall guy to be gone. Other than that, I loved it. :) Peace! |
