Player: Pam Froman Name: Wade Kathleen Welles Age: 23 (DOB: 9/21) Sex: Female Appearance: Wade is 5'3 and 105 lbs. She is petite. Wade has short dark hair, brown eyes, and delicate features. She is a snazzy/casual dresser. She often wears skirts, sweaters and jeans, sundresses, or short sets. She usually wears silver earrings and a cubed necklace with her name imprinted on it. Hometown: San Francisco, CA. "The City" as locals call it. A poorer section of town...Wade's family is lower middle class. Wade was born on 9/21 to Don and Ellen Welles. She has an older sister named Kelly. Family: Wade's dad was a bank manager, her mom a homemaker. While close to both her parents and her sister growing up, Wade often wished she could get to know her father more. He was a very busy, though loving man who barely made enough to support his family. Wade's mom was a big influence on her. Ellen was a modern day hippie, extremely idealistic and always giving. Kelly was more like Wade's dad...wanting to succeed and drive forward...not satisfied with lack of money. Wade on the other hand, while she wanted new clothes and things too, took a more world view approach. She appreciated that she wasn't worse off in the world. Wade and Kelly shared a room while growing up. They fought as kids but by the time Wade was 16 and Kelly 18, they were as close as sisters could be. Wade often turned to Kelly for much needed advice. They supported each other. Life and Background: In elementary school, Wade started tumbling and doing gymnastics. She was extremely talented at it, and secretly hoped that one day she might make it to the Olympics. She had few friends until highschool, however. She loved to read, and had braces and that made her unpopular with jr. highschool boys. The girls were even crueler. They called her names like shrimp and crybaby, because of her sensitivity and propensity for tears. They also made fun of her hand me down clothes. But in highschool all that changed. Boys suddenly noticed her. Still Wade was insecure. She never would totally get over the feeling of loneliness that her early years had taught her. She continued to tumble and got better and better. She met her best friend Sabrina at age 14. Sabrina went to the same highschool as she did, but Sabrina was new. Sabrina was also into gymnastics and at her urging Wade tried out for the team. She made it. Sabrina did not. This cause a bit of a rift in their friendship, but one that was soon made up. Wade's first real boyfriend was Rick Parsons. He was a junior when she was a freshman. He was tall, with sandy blond hair and hazel eyes. Rick asked her to the Winter Formal dance, and they dated for 6 months after that. But Wade broke up with Rick because he started treating her badly that summer. It was hard for her. She cried for weeks on and off. Wade's sophomore year she didn't date anyone seriously. She instead got better and better at gymnastics. Her grades were okay...A's and B's..although she always carried an A in English. She was not very into school although she did like to learn. It was just the way things were presented in school that made everything boring. Her teachers consistently told her she wasn't living up to her potential. Wade made varsity gymnast at her junior year. She started competing locally and winning quite a bit. This was also the year she discovered the PC. Her school funded a computer lab and Wade asked to be the aid for it, to make up for some lost credits. She got to be good friends with the teacher Mrs. MacDean, and so began a life long passion for computers. Some of the guys in the class were even more into computers than she was. One particular one, Jeff Holloway, had a crush on her. He followed her around showing her tricks and repairs on the PC...anything she asked. He even showed her how to hack into the school's mainframe. She began to get more and more into hacking, although Sabrina and the rest of her girlfriends didn't really know about it. It was Wade's private thing. Unfortunately, however, her parents couldn't buy her a computer, so Wade got a job at Radio Shack to save up for one. She eventually did buy one two years later. Wade went out with Jason Sauer her Junior years. They dated for one years. He was two years older than she, and a freshman at Berkeley. But he broke up with her in the beginning of her senior year, because she was in his words "too clingy." Devastated by those words, Wade would have a hard time expressing her love for someone from then on. She continued to climb the ranks in gymnastics. Senior year, she was captain of the school's team and received a scholarship to Berkeley. She met Andy that year. Andy was her age, and super sweet. He went to all of her gymnastic meets and they went to prom together. He was pretty much perfect. His family was rich, he was cute and sweet and he loved her very much. At the 2nd to last meet of her highschool career, Wade blew out her knee at a meet. She was rushed to hospital and Andy was there for her the whole time. But her knee would never fully recover as the tendons were torn. Her gymnastics scholarship went out the window. Wade was stuck. She became very depressed at having lost her dream for quite some time. It was Kelly and Sabrina and Andy that helped her realize that all would not be lost forever. She just had to make money to go to school. But Wade decided that she would rather learn life first. She went on a trip across country with her sister for three months. Then after that she continued to work for Radio Shack, and go out with Andy. Andy meanwhile was going to Berkeley. He joined a fraternity and changed a lot. They began to fight. But Wade wasn't willing to give him up. She loved him. So despite everything they stayed together. At age 22, Wade finally decided she needed to go back to school. She was sick of Radio Shack and got a job at Doppler's computer store, which is where she met Quinn. Here's an excerpt of those first two days from her diary: October 14, 1994 Dear Diary, I got the job!!!! I got the job!!!! So amazing. Yes, indeed, it a gainfully employed computer saleswoman at Doppler computers writing this note. I'm so happy! With the salary from Dopplers I can afford school...finally! (Not that I know what the hell I want to do with my life...but hey! That'll come right?) I mean Diary, I'd almost given up hope of ever getting to take classes again. After the knee injury blew my gymnastics scholarship...well...it was really hard to accept the fact that I'd have to save money to get back in school. But this job pays a great base and commission! And it's not like I don't know computers. I mean...hello? I only hacked into Andy's work computer...oops maybe I shouldn't write that...anyway...it's so cool. Orientation is tomorrow. Gotta go! Love, Wade "Doppler's employee" Welles October 15, 1994 Dear Diary, I just got back from orientation a few minutes ago. It was just me and this guy Quinn. We spent the whole day watching videos on Doppler customer service. Can you say yawn? But Quinn was really nice. When Hurley (our new boss) left us alone, he would fast forward the tape. Soon we were both imitating the video's commentator. I can still hear that video's squeaky voice. "A good employee is a prompt employee!" and "CARE means Correct attitude retains employment." Brother! Love, Wade Okay...so Wade worked at Dopplers and she got to know Quinn. He became her confidant and one of her best friends. I'll excerpt more so you can see how that first happened. November 14, 1994 Dear Diary, Quinn and I had a long talk today. We were hanging out in Golden Gate Park watching the sunset after work. We've taken to doing that every so often. I, like an idiot, asked him what his plans were for Thanksgiving. He got real quiet and said "Just hanging with Mom like usual." But I could tell something was wrong you know? So I asked him "What about your Dad?" I figured he'd tell me they were divorced or something like that. Well, Wade, stick foot in mouth, because his dad passed away when he was 11. I felt so bad for even asking! But I also saw that the memory of his dad weigh s really heavily on his heart. I took his hand (I think he was a bit shocked at that one) and I asked him if he wanted to talk about it. Well, we ended up taking for two hours about our hearts and our feelings about life. It was like...we couldn't run out of things to say. It was great. He's great. I mean...oh...I don't know what I mean. Love, Wade Andy had given Wade a promise ring. But they were still having major problems. And in February that came to a head. He cheated on her. They broke up and Quinn, who had come to be one of her best friends, was her lifeline. Eventually she started to develop feelings for Quinn. But she didn't dare to tell him. He was very obvious in placing her in the "bud" role they'd started out as. Here's another excerpt that explains this: May 29, 1995 Dear Diary, I don't know what I'm doing! I can't help the way I feel can I? And nothing seems to work. I've tried to be subtle, but Quinn can be dense as a rock. And sometimes he says the dumbest things! I know he means to be kind, but he absolutely destroys my resolve when he says them. Like today. I brought up the fact that Andy's been trying to call my house (but Kelly's been screening) trying to make him jealous and all he said was "Aren't you over that guy yet Wade?" Ummm...yeah? Hello? I'm into you....was what I wanted to say. But of course I kept my mouth shut like usual and mumbled something instead. Love, Wade Anyway this is the position that the two of them are in when Wade leaves to slide. Go back to the characters page.

Personality: Wade is funny, mischievous, open hearted, sensitive and sweet. She is a little too idealistic for her own good, and sometimes she rushes into things without thinking. Also she can sometimes have a one track mind...and be unable to see other points of view. She is stubborn and can be willful. She is kind and little things affect her easily. She is nurturing, very much a mothering or rescuing type of person. She gets hurt and cries easily. She also forgives easily, and she doesn't really hold grudges very well. She is ruled by her emotions. Nature: In herself, Wade is passionate and daring. But she often keeps herself in check. For instance, she loves Quinn...but is terrified of his reaction to that love. She doesn't always believe herself worthy of being loved, and she has insecurities over her body. She loves to experience life to the fullest, yet she holds her internal feelings at bay. She is extremely forthright and would like to be totally honest. But she doesn't always dare. She is afraid of her own powerful emotions. She is idealistic to a fault. She is spiritual. She believes in souls and the paranormal and has a very open mind. She isn't afraid to speak her views on life...and she doesn't hold them back often. She loves easily. Too easily in her opinion. She has been burned before and is wary. She is unsure of her footing around Quinn as he is different from any man she has ever know. Hobbies: At one time gymnastics. Computers, poetry, writing...she aspires to be published one day, mysticism and the occult, reading, she likes to dance, has a passion for art and history as well. She has a real sense about time. It means something to her. |
