A thousand years ago in a place called the Moon Kingdom, Princess Serena lived with her mother Queen Serenity. All was peaceful and happy until the night the Negaverse attacked. The Moon Kingdom was completely destroyed. Queen Serenity saved everyone by reincarnating them on earth a thousand years later by using the Imperium Silver Crystal.
On Earth, Princess Serena is just Serena, a normal teenage girl. She is a clutzy, whiny crybaby, but she is incredibly caring and a very loyal friend. She is very sensitive. She hates for anyone to get hurt and will sacrifice herself for her friends.
One day, Serena finds a black cat with a crescent moon on its forhead. Amazingly, the cat talks to her! The cat, named Luna, tells Serena that she is Sailor Moon, champion of justice. Serena just wants to be a normal girl, but she gives it all up in order to save the world from the forces of evil with the help of Luna and Tuxedo Mask, who always comes to her rescue when she is in a pickle.
Serena's family is really the only family we get to see a whole lot of in the series. Her father doesn't want Serena to date anyone except Melvin (who Serena finds annoying most of the time), while her mother thinks Darien is a fine choice! Ironically, Her little bro Sammy has a crush on Sailor Moon! Weird!
Serena is a very outgoing person and makes friends easily. Her friends at school who aren't Sailor Scouts are Molly and Melvin. Serena hates to study, which is why she always gets bad grades. She is always late for school and spends most of her after-school time in detention. She is friends with almost everyone she knows.
