"Cinderella" was the sweet child who was victimized by her selfish step mother and two step sisters. Her fairy godmother came to her rescue, saw that she attended the prince's ball and was ultimately married to him. The story was published in the 1600s by French author Charles Perrault in his collection of stories "Tales of Mother Goose; or Stories of Olden Times." Brown combines the anticipation of good things to come (the fairy about to transform Cinderella) with the warning that the good times may end, a clock striking twelve.
