Children's Story Illustrations by Reynold Brown

Little Red Riding Hood

"Little Red Riding Hood" was published along with "Cinderella," "Puss in Boots" and "Sleeping Beauty" in "Tales of Mother Goose; or Stories of Olden Times" a book by Charles Perrault (1628-1703). In the original story the happy ending is only for the wolf, for it ends with him having eaten both the grandmother and Red Riding Hood.

Brown gives us a "wolf" of a very different sort and by so doing changes the nature of the danger.
