Definitions of Award Categories


 

DEMOCRACY: Films that portray the way in which ordinary people have a right to choose public policies and can bring about political change by making officeholders accountable to the people.

EXPOSÉ: Films that bring previously obscured truths about the political process to the attention of the public, showing for example how offices of public trust are used for private purposes.

HUMAN RIGHTS : Films that demonstrate how governments or quasigovernmental groups have violated or promoted the values in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

PEACE: Films that demonstrate the folly of political violence as a means for resolving conflict and/or show the superiority of nonviolent political conflict resolution.
