Anyway, I think this time I’m just going to ramble on a few things that’ve been on my mind and in the news lately - including a subject Adam brought to the public eye in issue #92.
First things first, everyone has talked about it except me by now, but I might as well get my two cents in. The future of ECW, what will it be? Other than the TNN shows and the occasional PPV, I’ve not been privileged to ECW. I don’t get the Hardcore TV show, and other than for about a year, that was the only way ECW could be seen. So calling myself a 'loyal' ECW fan would be a stretch. However, I am an ECW fan. I follow it as well as I can, and I’m familiar with pretty much all of ECW’s history. What I see unfolding with this company is nothing but a tragedy. ECW was (or if it survives IS) always entertaining, and no matter who wrestled, I never felt like I wasted my money on any of their PPV events. They helped guys like the Dudleys, Tazz, Steven Richards, Raven, and others to find their niches and good gimmicks, and then move on to bigger things. ECW is a very important part of today’s wrestling landscape, and if it folds I have no idea what will happen - I can only hope that Paul Heyman decides to take that position the WWF has offered him.
Meanwhile, the WWF has been snatching up ECW’s top talent while the picking is still good. Rhino, Justin Credible, Jerry Lynn, and perhaps Tajiri as well, have all either signed or are about to sign with the WWF. At the same time Haku, X-Pac, and The Big Show (uggh) have all returned recently. The WWF roster is getting so full that there’s no way they can fit everyone on to Smackdown and RAW and still allow them to have enough air time to showcase what they can do. I’m just going to say this much, I hear there are roster cuts coming pretty soon....do us all a favor and cut the Big Show from the roster...ship him off to the circus or something. Then give Tazz this big push the Show mysteriously received. It’s been too long since I’ve seen a real good Tazz match, and he could kill some people in the HardCore division.
Speaking of Tazz, I picked up WWF - The Music - Volume 5 on Tuesday, and Tazz’s track kicks ass. Tazz, along with Raven, Triple H, Too Cool, Kane, and Kurt Angle are some really solid tracks on the new CD. I have no idea why in the hell K-Kwick is on the damn CD to begin with, but his track, along with Lita’s, Eddie Guerrero’s, and Chyna’s, all suck. The rest of them are just kind of in between bad and good. I will say this about the Rock’s singing debut however; it’s funny as hell in a way, just because we all know what the double meaning of the song is. But in another way, it’s a totally retarded track...which at least in my view could have been replaced with Stone Cold or Undertaker’s new music. Decent CD overall, but the WWF could have done much better.
Now then, I hate to address something like this in a public forum, but Adam brought it up, so here it goes. The future of this newsletter is in trouble. Well, that’s true I suppose. Adam and I had a little discussion the other night about how our schedules are both so busy and won’t be slowing down at all anytime soon. That somehow led in to discussing whether we had time for the newsletter anymore. We decided to give it some time to think it over, which I thought that was all it was going to be, not mentioning it in the flicking newsletter. Anyway, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I do know this: If there is any way I can stay on board this newsletter, as long as it’s being sent out, I would love nothing more than to keep working on here as a columnist, webmaster, and co-editor. I’ll make time somehow, I always have before. I expect that’s the resolution Adam will come to as well, but we’ll see. The things for issue #100 have hit a few speed bumps, but we’ll find a way around them. In the meantime, I want to ask a favor from all of YOU. The people who read this newsletter. If you get ANY enjoyment out of my column, out of the web site, out of the newsletter, out of ANY part of this thing as a whole, SEND US YOUR FEEDBACK! It’s very discouraging to never get any feedback at all on something you spend so much time on. We returned in October, and you know what? Out of all the things I do for the site and all the columns I have written, guess how many people have emailed me with any feedback. ZERO. That’s not very encouraging to me, or any of us who work so hard and get no response. If you like our product, please let us know. It makes it all feel worthwhile when you get a few pats on the back. Believe me, if Adam hadn’t patted me on the back a few times along the way, I doubt if I’d still be here right now. Think about it folks. I don’t want to see this newsletter go under, I really don’t. Anyway, I’ll get off of my soapbox for now, and I’ll see ya next time.
