The Tombstone

You know, in October of 1997, when I was asked to be a web master for a newsletter that was then in its infancy, then called The Figure Four Newsletter; I honestly remember thinking to myself, “this won’t last”. Boy, was I wrong. The Figure Four didn’t last, actually. It only went six issues. BUT, when it returned with a new name, The 3:16 Report, we had ourselves a newsletter that, granted took a 2 year hiatus and might miss a few issues during the holidays, but overall we are probably the longest running wrestling newsletter around. And I’m glad to have been a part of that.

I got started here as a web master for the first version of the newsletter, like I said. That didn’t last long, as I had a disagreement with one of the editors, and I went my own way for a bit. Then in December of 1997, shortly before Christmas if I’m remembering right, a guy named Travis Butler, whom I had worked with on a newsletter previously, invited me into a chat room on IRC one night. He introduced me to Adam Honey, who most of you should know if you’re reading this, is the Editor of this very newsletter. Adam and I had never spoken, despite the fact that he was one of the three editors when I was a part of the newsletter a month earlier. So Adam and I talked for a while, and things were moving smoothly. He was very professional and nice to me, unlike any other newsletter editor I had ever been associated with before. He asked me to do the WCW Thunder Report for the newsletter, to which I grudgingly said yes. I was now a 3:16 Report staffer.

So I did the Thunder Reports for a while, doing my column when I had time, and also moving up to the “Ass. Editor” position (I’m still a little upset that I was called “ass” so frequently for awhile J). But, meanwhile Travis and Adam were having their problems, mostly because Travis was a giant pain in the ass. So eventually, Travis got fired, and I was bumped up to Co-Editor. I did take on the web master duties as well, but shortly thereafter, we closed down.

The 3:16 Report shut down for about 2 ½ years from June of 1998 to October of 2000. In that time, I continued writing for my web site occasionally, but nothing too big. Adam and I reunited in October of 2000, and I suppose the rest is history.

In all seriousness, Adam annoys the hell out of me sometimes, but he’s a great Editor and he’s not a prick like other people I have written for (I’m actually not talking about you Murtz, if you’re reading this). Adam is someone who, even though he and I have never met face to face, I consider to be a friend. That says something for his character right there. But, the bottom line is just that I’ve enjoyed the last 200 issues, and I will be around for 200 more, or however many we have left.
