The Rock. I like the Rock for the most part. He's got great mic skills, he can be funny as hell when he wants to be, and he's a great athlete. But, much like Stone Cold before him, he's beginning to get old really really fast. It's not his fault, it's just the way that the WWF pushes him into every main event, whether it makes sense or not. I'm sorry, but the whole Chris Benoit/Rock feud, really doesn't catch my intrest and sure as hell isn't a main event PPV matchup, even if the WWF title is involved. The Rock is a cool character and up until shortly after Wrestlemania I was really liking the whole package. I didn't mind seeing him as WWF champion at Backlash, but..much like Steve Austin, it's gotten to the point where the Rock can do no wrong. No matter what the Rock says, does, or who he fights, it gets eaten up. I hate that. The Rock could walk to the ring, say "I eat bannanas" or something completely nonsensical like that and get cheered. I'm sorry, but there's something I don't like about always knowing that the Rock will eventually win over whoever he's against. There's something I don't like about knowing that the Rock will always be in the WWF title picture, no matter what. There's something I don't like about knowing that if I see Triple H kick the Rock's ass on RAW, that on Smackdown!, Triple H will get his ass kicked by the Rock. It's kind of hard to put it all into words I guess, but basically I just wish the Rock was toned down a little bit to where he could be enjoyable, but not be shoved down our (the fans) throats.
Of course the simple fact that he's fighting Chris Benoit could be part of the problem. I like Benoit as a wrestler. He's entertaining to watch in a match with Jericho or another good technical wrestler. However, Benoit needs to stay off of the mic. "I'm the best technical wrestler in the WWF" is not a good catch phrase. Benoit needs a good manager who can speak for him, maybe it could be Shane. Hell, I don't know. All I do know is, if Benoit is going to be main event, he needs to keep his mouth shut.
The Undertaker...oh god. Please Undertaker...if you happen to be reading this, BE THE UNDERTAKER AGAIN! Stop chewing tobaco! Park that damn motorcycle at home and take a hearse to the arena! Fuck the Last Ride! I want to see somebody get Tombstoned! Ditch the blue jeans and the denim shirts and get out the black leather! Dammit, I want to see the Phenom! If I want to see a shitty motorcycle gimmick, I'll go watch old tapes of the D.O.A. And roll those eyes back in your head for crying out loud!
Kane. It was great to see Kane come back from his hand injury to main event a little. I loved it. I was hoping for another Kane title reign. Dammit, since when is Kane a mid-carder? Oh yeah, since X-Pac. Kane isn't too bad on the mic, but maybe it'd be better if Kane went back to his roots, his main event days, and stop giving a shit about anyone or anything, and come out to the ring, kick some ass, and go back to the back. I don't know, I just hate seeing Kane stuck fighting for the Intercontinental Title when he could and should be world champion.
Triple H is the man. I swear, he's just so damn awesome. I love watching him wrestle, no matter who against. He made Jericho look good, he made the Rock look good, he made the Big Show look good, hell he even made the Brooklyn Brawler look good! Triple H is the perfect heel. I really can't think of anything bad to say about the Game. Even Stephanie compliments his whole character very well. Just an awesome combination all around. I'd love to see him as WWF Champion again and for a long time to come.
Chris Jericho. Used to love the guy. His WCW character was cool and when he first entered the WWF he was cool then too. The problem now is he's getting away from what made him popular, that being his funny catch phrases and his long, insulting speeches on his way to the ring. Calling Stephanie the same thing week in and week out is annoying. It was funny the first time, humorous the second, and now it's annoying. What happened to the guy who told Vince he has a small penis? THAT was comedy! Jericho as a tough guy? I'm just really not buying it.
Kurt Angle. I actually am a fan of the Olympic Hero. It's true, it's true. He's gotten a lot better on the mic lately. The "as they would say on the streets, 'my bad'" thing...that cracked me up big time. He's really got my attention. A great worker on the mic and in the ring. I mean, I'm not in the WWF and it's not for me to say, but I really wouldn't be suprised at all to see Kurt Angle as the world champion before the sun sets on the year 2000. And THAT my friends, is true.
I think I've covered most of the main event players in the WWF...so until I think of something else to write about...I'm out of here.
See ya.
