Alright, I've complemented myself enough now. I feel better. Summerslam was, overall, a great event. It sure blew any recent WCW pay per views out of the water. WCW would have to pay me to get me to watch their crap. Nitro is bad enough, especially last night. Anyway, back to Summerslam.
I must say that the opening match, Val Venis vs. D-Lo Brown, may have been the best match on the card, and that's not taking away from the rest of it either. I was VERY impressed by these two rookies! The high flying, the submission holds, the technical wrestling, it had it all. It lasted a solid 15-20 minutes too, which is hard to find these days. Personally, I wanted to see the "Big Valboski" walk away with the European Title, but seeing the referee catch a Money Shot was almost an equal replacement.
Now the next match was just a time wasting match, suitable for maybe a circus act or a kid's clown show or something. The Oddities vs. Kaientai (sp?). What a damn joke! I don't really give a flying ass if Kurrgan or anyone else can dance or throw around little light-heavyweights, show me they can wrestle, and then maybe I'll care. I do like the Oddities' music though.
X-Pac vs. Jeff Jarrett in a hair for hair match. Not too horrible of a match actually! I was laughing my ass off when the Fink told Double J to "SUCK IT!" Gees, as if Fink needed to get his head shaved, he looked like a jackass WITH hair! No offense Fink, of course, you're still the man when it comes to ring announcing! Anyway, I really thought JJ would win, but X-Pac got the win with the guitar. They didn't shave Double J bald though, and that's no suprise, considering the bitching he did about Austin shaving his head when he returned a few months ago.
Sable and, the mystery partner, Edge, vs. Marc Mero and Jaqueline. This match was about what I expected, Mero and Jackie getting thrown around by Sable mostly. It's amazing that Mero has gone from those high flying moves and the IC title to getting beaten up by a woman. Oh well, it was a decent match, considering it had women wrestlers involved anyway. Sable and Edge walk away with the win, no suprise there.
The Lion's Den Match, Ken Shamrock vs. Owen Hart w/Dan Severn. Not a bad match at all actually! I was expecting a lot less. Lots of submission moves. Ken Shamrock wins with the Ankle Lock. By the way, were Shamrock's tights green or blue?
Maknind (no Kane) vs. the New Age Outlaws for the Tag Team Titles. Personally, I was disappointed that I didn't get to see Kane wrestle, but at least he was there. I wanted this match to go longer, I love the hard core stuff. The beating of each other with anything in site. That's quality stuff! I would have loved to see Mankind beat both Outlaws, but once I realized Kane wasn't going to help him, I knew the belt's were going back to DX. That thing with Kane at the end, smashing the hammer onto Mankind inside the dumpster, that was nice. Also nice to see Kane go back to his old tights, with the one arm uncovered. I don't know why, but I like that one more.
The Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title, Triple H vs. The Rock. Even though I knew who was gonna win, it was a great match to watch. Considering both men had never been in a ladder match before, they both did extremly well. No high risk moves off the ladder though. Both Chyna and Mark Henry got involved, no suprise there. In the end, Chyna low blows the Rock to help HHH win the IC title.
The main event, the WWF Title Match, Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker. Hell, this match may as well have been no DQ. They fought threw the crowd, outside the ring, on the announcing table, there were low blows all around, it was not a technical wrestling match. I think that the Undertaker carried the match, Austin seemed to be out of it or something. And whenever he fell down, they said that he butted heads with the Undertaker, hell, it looked like he just fell to me. I was glad to see Undertaker tell Kane not to interfere, I was glad Kane did not turn on UT, and I was glad Undertaker did not turn heel by blasting Austin with the title afterwards. However, I was VERY pissed at the end of that match. I was hoping for the Phenom to grab the belt for a third time. Overall, a good PPV, although I think King of the Ring and Wrestlemania XIV were better.
That's it for this round....until next time....Rest In Peace! Or BURN IN HELL! Take your pick!
