You know, I was going through some old tapes of RAW yesterday, and I stumbled across the tape that had Bret Hart's return to the WWF in late 1996, along with all of the pre-Survivor Series stuff. I came to a few conclusions. Bret Hart, in his returning interview, stated that he would be in the WWF forever, his exact words I believe, and Vince McMahon started aplauding at the sound of that. Gees, how things change. A little over a year later Vince basically forces Bret out of the WWF, and now Bret is over in WCW with probably no chance of ever getting back all of the respect and main event status that he had in the World Wrestling Federation. Damn...I can't help but wonder how things could be different if the Hitman was still in the WWF.
Another thing I noticed, and something I thought all along, but it really came home when I watched this tape, is that Stone Cold Steve Austin really sucks as a "good guy". I sat back and watched Austin brutally attack Brian Pillman, I watched him swearing at police officers, I watched him throw monitors on the ground and tell the makeup lady to "hit the streets in that outfit". It was great stuff, stuff that he hasn't even come close to since becoming a fan favorite. Stone Cold Steve Austin just isn't "Stone Cold" anymore. Too bad that he'll never go back to his roots, not with the way the Austin merchandise sells.
Survivor Series, live tonight on Pay Per View, it should be a very entertaining card, but I hope that they don't make the mistake of giving the Rock the title, and I hope that they keep it away from Steve Austin as well. The Undertaker is my personal favorite, and I wouldn't mind seeing Mankind as champion either, although I know that won't happen.
Has anyone out there ever seen ECW? Well if you haven't, you're missing out. I ordered the November to Remember event two weeks ago (I ordered it because of Tammy Sytch {Sunny} to begin with), but anyway the ECW actually suprised me. Aside from the opening match, which really sucked, the rest of the pay per view was pretty good! These guys take a lot of big hits and really give you the bang for your buck. Plus, you have to consider Tammy Sytch, Francine, Tammy Lynn Bytch, etc. They didn't exactly hurt my opinion of the show.
Too bad Vader left before the formation of the J.O.B. Squad, he would have fit right in. It's a damn shame that Vader never tasted any WWF gold.
I smell something burning, so either I left something in the oven, or I've been thinking too hard, and either way, I had better call it quits for this edition of the Tombstone.
That's it for this round....until next time....Rest In Peace! Or BURN IN HELL! Take your pick!
