2. After Johnny Valentine's career is ended in a plane crash, a tournament is held to crown a new champion.

3. Ric Flair vacates the title upon winning the tag team titles. Snuka wins a tournament to crown the new champion.

4. Injury forces Wahoo McDaniel to relinquish the title. Sgt. Slaughter wins a tournament to crown a new champion.

5. Slaughter is awarded the title when McDaniel is injured.

6. Title is held up after a controversial title change. McDaniel wins a tournament to crown a new champion.

7. Magnum TA is stripped of the title for attacking NWA President Bob Geigel. Nikita Koloff wins the title in a best of 7 series with Magnum TA.

8. Dusty Rhodes is stripped of the title for attacking Jim Crokett. Barry Windham wins a tournament to decide the new champion.

9. Title is renamed WCW United States Heavyweight Title.

10. Lex Luger vacates the title upon winning the World Heavyweight Title. Sting wins a tournament to crown the new champion.

11. The title is vacated when Rick Rude is injured. Dustin Rhodes wins the tournament to crown the new champion.

12. The title is held up after a controversial ending to a Rick Rude/Dustin Rhodes match. Dustin Rhodes wins the rematch and the title.

13. The title is awarded to Austin when Steamboat is unable to compete in their scheduled title match.

14. Vader is stripped of the title. Sting wins a tournament to name the new champion.

15. One Man Gang is awarded the title when Sasaki vacted it following a defense against One Man Gang.

16. Flair is injured and vacates the title. Guererro wins a tournament to declare a new champion.

17. Goldberg vacates the title after winning the World Heavyweight Title. Bret Hart beats DDP to determine the new champion.

18. Scott Hall is stripped of the title due to injury. Scott Steiner wins a tournament to crown the new champion.

19. David Flair is presented the title by WCW President Ric Flair after Steiner is stripped of the belt due to injury.

20. Scott Hall wins a Texas Tornado Ladder Match for the vacant title.

21. Benoit is awarded the title when Hall is injured.

22. Jarrett is stripped of the title on January 15 due to injury, only to be rewarded the title again when he returns.

23. Russo and Bischoff vacate all WCW titles as a part of the "new and improved" WCW. Steiner wins the tournament to crown the new champion.

24. Lance Storm wins a tournament to decide the new champion after Steiner is stripped by the Cat.

25. Booker T awards the title to Kanyon.

26. The United States Title is combined with the Intercontinental Title. The United States Title ceases to exist.

27. Stephanie McMahon reinstates the United States Title on Smackdown! Eddie Guerrero wins the tournament to crown the champion.
