WWE WAR ZONE - The Tombstone

So we are just a little over two months from the biggest event in sports entertainment history, Wrestlemania XX. I’m here today to bring you the next installment of my Road to Wrestlemania XX series of columns, which chronicle my memories of all of the past Wrestlemanias that I have been a fan long enough to have seen (Wrestlemania IX in 1993 – present). We’re up to Wrestlemania XI which took place in 1995.

Wrestlemania XI was actually one of my least favorite Wrestlemanias. The main event of Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow annoyed me greatly. The WWF title match was not the main event as it should have been, especially considering that the matchup for the title was former best friends and whatnot, Shawn Michaels and Diesel fighting it out for the WWF Championship.

The matches I wanted to see were Razor Ramon vs. Jeff Jarrett for the Intercontinental Title, and Shawn Michaels vs. Diesel for the WWF Championship. Both matches delivered, with the title not changing hands in either case. I believe Wrestlemania XI was one of four Wrestlemanias to not have the title WWE title change hands. Triple H retained at Wrestlemania 16, Hogan retained at Wrestlemania II and III, and Diesel retained at XI. Just a little Wrestlemania trivia for you.

Wrestlemania XI just didn’t have that special feeling to me like Wrestlemania should have. I think it was the main event being a football player that caused that, but none the less I feel like Wrestlemania XI was a bit of a disappointment.
