I woke up the next day in my room, which was a floor down from Trey, Dave, and Damon's. They all had rooms on the same floor, but not the same room. I opened my eyes and realized that I wasn't lying on a pillow, I was lying on a person. I picked up my head and I saw Dave. Then I remembered what had happened. I had asked Dave to stay in my room the night before and we fell asleep on my bed watching an American movie.
"Hey Dave, wake up," I whispered in his ear and started combing his hair with my fingers.
He opened his eyes, looked down at me and smiled. "Hey Kat," he said quietly.
"Do you think we should see if Trey is up yet?" I said as I put my head on his chest.
"What time is it?"
"Umm, it's, wow, it's 1:00 in the afternoon," I said looking over him at the digital clock.
"He should probably be up now. You want me to come with you?" he put his arms around me and I snuggled closer to him.
"If you don't mind," I said quietly as I squirmed out of his arms to change into different clothes.
"Do you think Trey will be alright with us?" Dave called into the bathroom.
"Well, why wouldn't he? I mean, we're both his friends. Wouldn't he be happy for us?" I called back as I got my boots.
"Uh, I don't know. You never know how friends will react to things," he said uneasily.
I walked out of the bathroom and put my leg on the bed to lace my boots. "Uh, sure Dave. Come on."
"Trey!" I knocked on room 503 furiously.
The door opened slowly and I saw Trey scratching his head and looking extremely tired. He face suddenly lit up when he saw me. "Juls! Hey! Come in!"
"Trey, um, we need to talk to you about something," Dave said coming up behind me and putting his hands on my shoulders.
Trey looked at me and then at Dave. "Come in you guys," he said strangely.
We followed him into the kitchen area and he poured us some coffee. He sat down next to me and across from Dave. "So what do you want to tell me?"
"Okay," I set my cup down. "Do you remember what happened last night at all?"
Trey nodded, "I started yelling at you in the pub and I hit you, but I didn't know what I was doing," he said rather quickly.
"Trey I know. I don't blame you, don't worry. Anyway after I darted out of the pub, I went to the hotel and I didn't want to be alone so I went to Dave's room. After awhile he hugged me because I was crying and he, um, kissed me. Then you came in and after that we kinda made out. I asked him to stay with me that night and he did. We're kinda going out now," I finished my story quietly.
"Well, congratulations! Um, Juls, can I talk to Dave for a minute?" Trey said smiling, but not grinning.
"Sure, I go out and wait in the hall," I said getting up and grabbing my coffee. I went out in the hall and sat next to door so I could hear they're conversation. Yes, I'm a snoop.
"What were you thinking Dave?"
"I'm sorry Trey, but it just happened. It's not my fault. You should have asked her out before. I mean you had the chance."
"Oh yeah right. She just broke up with Aaron. Ever heard of rebound? Anyway it doesn't matter anymore."
"Man, I'm sorry that you didn't have enough guts to ask her out."
"Enough guts?! What the hell are you talking about?! I don't want to ruin our friendship! G-D!!!" I heard Trey yell.
Trey likes me?, I thought SHIT!!!
I picked up my coffee when Trey jerked the door open and I dropped the cup. Trey looked at me with such a sadness that I couldn't not look away from him. He finally turned around and walked away.
"Trey wait!" I got up and ran over to him. He turned around and I could see the tears falling. "Oh Trey, how long have you felt this way?"
"When you left California and went to P.A., I realized that I like you more than a friend," he said quietly looking down at me.
Then I did the only thing I could think of, I put my hand on his cheek and kissed him.
To quote The Princess Bride by William Goldman "There have been five great kisses since 1642 B.C., when Saul and Delilah Korn's inadvertent discovery swept across Western civilization. (Before then couples hooked thumbs.) And the precise rating of kisses is a terribly difficult thing, often leading to great controversy, because although everyone agrees with the formula of affection times purity times intensity times duration, no one has ever been completely satisfied with how much weight each element should receive. But on any system, there are five that everyone agrees deserve full marks. Well, this one left them all behind."
When we separated from each other he looked at me so intensely that I felt a chill go through me, like when I heard a really good song. I heard Dave open the door, and I saw Trey look at him. I turned around and saw Dave turn around and walk to the elevator. I knew that he was waiting for me to follow him, but I couldn't follow.
"I'd like to make a long distance call to Le Dans, in Blois, France; to a Ms. Madison Pen," I said to the German operator.
"It's ringing. Have a nice day," the operator said.
"Thank you," I sat down on my bed.
"Hello?" I heard Madison say.
"Maddy! It's Juls. How ya been?" I said with fake enthusiasm. You see Madison moved to Wisconsin when I was in seventh grade. Although she was in ninth grade she was my best-friend.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Umm, I need to talk to you about something. First of all, I'm in Germany..." I told the entire story to her. "...and then I kissed Trey," I finished.
"You kissed Trey?!" Madison exclaimed.
"Umm, yeah. Help!"
"Well, who do you like better?"
"Gee, do you think if I knew that I would have to call you?" I said agitated.
"Sorry! Don't jump down my throat! Okay, think of Dave when you kissed him. Think of the feeling you got."
"Okay. Now what?"
"Now think of the feeling you got when you kissed Trey. Which do you like better?"
I closed my eyes, and thought for a second. What's it gonna take, how long must I wait to have you? It was a song that Trey had written last year. Then I knew.
"Juls? Ya still there?" Maddy said.
"Huh? Yeah," I said as I came out of my trance.
"So who's it gonna be?" she asked, obviously interested.
"Trey," I said quietly. "Thank you so much Mad. I gotta go, bye," I said as I quickly hung up the phone.
"Wait!" I hardly heard Maddy yell.
I knocked on room 504 and said, "Housekeeping," in a strong German accent.
"I'm a-coming!" I heard Trey yell.
He opened the door, I grabbed his shirt, and pulled him into a kiss. I think he was stunned for a second, but he quickly relaxed and closed the door behind me. I pulled away from him and looked at him with the same intensity that he had only a few hours ago. I felt the same chill run through me, and I knew that it was love.
"I take it you chose me?" he said holding my hands tightly, but not to the point of pain.
"Yeah. I love you Trey Parker. I love you more than love itself," I whispered in his ear.
"I love you too," he said as he kissed my neck. We embraced for what seemed an eternity.
"Should I tell Dave?" I said as I played with his hair. Yes, I have a hair fetish.
"In a minute," he held me a little longer, and then stood back.
He sighed and then said, "Let's go."
I stood up on my toes and gave his nose a kiss.
"Could you stay out here?" I said as I knocked on Dave's door.
"As long as I can eavesdrop," he grinned.
"Of course," I smiled back.
Trey sat down next to the door and Dave opened the door. He smiled at me and then the smile disappeared, as though he saw the answer in my face. "You like him more," he sighed.
"I'm sorry Dave. Can we still be friends?"
"How can I say no to you?" he said sadly as he reached out and brushed my cheek. "Can I just be alone today?"
"Yeah sure. Well, um, see ya," I said as he closed the door.
Trey got up and I looked up at him. I fell into his arms.
"Shh. It's okay, it's okay," he said stroking my shoulder length hair.
"I know," I stood back, took a deep breath and smiled.
"You know I have some ownership in that smile. Remember when we were making Newsies? The-"
"Red paint," we both said at the same time. Then we both burst out into laughter.
"So where do you want to go?" he asked as he offered me his arm.
I took his arm and said, "Where ever you'll be."
