Part 1
"The names Bond. James Bond."
"Trey turn that down!"
"Did you know that this guy on TV once ate snails for $75?"
"I SAID TURN THAT DOWN!!!!!!!"
"Can you charge for accessory to murder if-?"
"You mean like escargot?"
"I LOVE this part!"
"No I mean like LIVE snails!"
"Hey guys!"
Fiona McGee walked into McGee's pub and grill just as the aforemetnioned
conversations stopped.
"Hey Fiona!" came several voices. First was her boyfriend Christian, who
was taking a much needed break from working the bar to finish his paper
on the study of law.
The next was their friend Trey, a tall blond haired boy who was at his
usual task of flirting with all the hot girls who came in for lunch. And
then their friend Max who was discussing the fine art of eating snails,
while working the cash register.
Fiona smiled and quickly threw back her long red hair into a messy
ponytail. She had been working at her father's pub ever since she was
fourteen, and now three years later she was still there. Of course, many
of her friends had decided to join her also.
"Where is everyone?" muttered Fiona.
"Some new girl just moved here." said Christian returning to the bar to
fill up a glass of beer for someone."Madison, Gabe, and Ivan took her
out."
"Ooooh so Ivan likes her this time?"
"What makes you think it's not Madison?" asked Trey slyly. Everyone knew
that Madison and Gabe were happily together since they could walk, and
Gabe would kill anyone who tried to take her away from him.
"So where is everybody else?"
"Well, Mark and Rayne are at thr multiplex with Mike, and Dominic, Davey,
and Aaron are over on the mainland looking for jobs. I think Azure went
too."
Fiona laughed. Finding a job on the mainland was very hard, but very
needed. All the kids on the island attended a private school, so they
needed to help with the costs somehow. Fiona, Max, Chris and Trey lived
on the island for as long as they could remember.
"Okay I've got tables three and five. Wait! Tell me more about this new
girl." Fiona said.
"Well." began Max, as he handed change back to a customer. "She came in
here looking for help finding some places, and Gabe and Maddie
volunteered, so Ivan jumped along for the ride."
"Wow. That would be great if Ivan found someone. So what's this girl's
name, y'know vital stats?"
"Well she had bleached blond hair, uh about your height, and she was
wearing this sundress."
"What a sundress!" whistled Trey as he handed menus to a couple who had
walked in. Then he flipped the restaurants TV back to the James Bond
marathon he had been watching.
"Anyways." Max began again. "Gabe and Maddie went over to the ferry, and
then downtown, to show her the Nile and stuff like that."
"Good call. The Nile's the best part of the island." said Christian. The
Nile was a teen club, the only one on the island, and had become sort of a
hangout for them.
"What do you say we show this Holly girl the nightlife later? You know,
Nile tonight, tommorow mainland?" asked Fiona.
"Sounds good!" Trey said. "I'll call Mark and Rayne and see if they want
to come along." He headed for the phone.
"Ah!" said Chrstian blocking his path. "But first, you'll help those
girls over at table 5."
Gleefully, Trey retuned to his flirt ritual, and the rest got to work.
-------------------------------------
"Sure we'd love to!" Rayne Summers cried ecstatically over the concession
stand phone, as she pushed her boyfriend, Mark David, off of her.
"Love to what?" asked Mark inbetween his failed attempts to kiss her
cheek. he turned around, and began to gently pluck strands of her long
blond hair out one by one.
"OW! Dammit you son of a -oh no! Not you Trey. Okay eight? Sounds
good."she hung up the phone and punched Mark playfuly in the arm. "Don't
do that!"
"Maybe you'll pay a little more attention to me now!" he whined, kissing
her. "Where are we going?"
"To the Nile. Some new girl came into McGee's and already Ivan's, like,
proposing," Rayne laughed. "Although he would make a really sweet
boyfriend."
"Yeah and he's getting really annoying the way he mopes around us all the
time." Just then their friend, Mike Goorjian walked into the booth in his
usual pessimistic state.
"Hey Mike, what's up?' asked Rayne helping herself to a box of Sweetarts.
"Nothing." he muttered angrily.
"Well someone's chipper."
"Okay. I just got informed that I am flunking summer school, and will
have to be a junior. AGAIN!"
"Sorry Mike, but in order to pass summer school you had to SHOW UP!"
laughed Mark. "Besides, now you lowly juniours can come with us seniors
to the Nile tonight. Fiona's treat...."
"Okay." grumbled Mike. "Okay."
-------------------------------------
"Max, I'm sure the entire universe will not stop revolving if you miss one
episode of 'Law and Order'."
"Madison how do you know that? Briscoe and Curtis are one step away from
figuring out the Hallfield Case!"
Madison Casella rolled her deep brown eyes to the ceiling and turned back
to her boyfriend.
"Gabe! Try to convince him!"
Gabe Damon grinned at her, and brushed some of his brown-blond hair from
his blue eyes. "I dunno Maddie. It's a really good show."
Max grinned. "In the criminal justice system."
"No!" screamed Madison running for the stairs.
"The people are represented by two seperate but equal groups." Gabe
grabbed her arms and forced her to listen.
"Not again!"
"The police who investigate crimes-"
"and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders." Gabe finished.
Finally, after fighting to no avail, she joined in.
"These are their stories."
"Okay, now that that's over and done with, let's go to the Nile!" Madison
grumbled, as her brother set the timer on the VCR. She adjusted her
silber tanktop, and straightened her long black hair, as they headed out
to Gabe's new VW bug.
"Ooooh shotgun!" screamed Madison.
They pulled out of the Casella's driveway, down Lark Road, and onto
Joiner street. In front of a modest Victorian house stood Azure, David,
Aaron, and Dominic.
"Hey guys!" yelled Madison as they piled into the tiny car. "Nice dress
Az!" she screamed over the Offspring that Gabe had blaring from the
stero.
"Give it to me baby!" Gabe sang along.
"Ooh, I hate this song." Azure squealed as David tickled her back. She was
scrunched in between David and Max. Azure and Madison were best friends.
Azure was graced with beautiful long brown hair that drifted down her
back, and blue eyes that everyone thought were those icky contact lenses.
She flattened out her long blue dress, and smiled at Madison. "You look
pretty Maddie." she commented on Madison's velvet pants and silver
tanktop number.
"Shoes?" they asked automatically. Madison's revealed her leapord print
go go boots, and Azure pulled up her black mary janes.
"Very nice."
"Will you stop that?" asked David. He smiled as he said it though, and
Azure tickled his stomach. David was a real sweetie, and quite preppy as
it turned out. He was more J.Crew where she was more make-it-yourself.
But they went really well together. Really well.
Finally Gabe pulled in front of the Nile. The blue entrance way was all
light up, and after getting through the bouncer, they made their way over
to a table where Mark, Rayne, Fiona and Christian were sitting. Pulling
up chairs, the huge group sat down.
"Where is everybody?" asked Gabe.
"You mean this isn't everybody?" asked a small voice. Across from Gabe
sat a small blond haired girl. She was wearing a gorgeous pruple
sundress, which she kept adjusting nervously.
"Naw," said Fiona. "This is about half. Oh right! Guys this is Holly
Manson. She just moved here from Boston."
Everyone said hello, and the change of DJs brought Trey, Mike and Serena
back from the dance floor. Serena was Fiona's little sister, and another
one of Madison's good friends.
The next song came on, and Serena looked hopefully at Trey. It was common
knowledge that Serena suffered from a huge crush on Trey, but he was the
only one who didn't notice. He would flirt with her for one minute, and
then was off with some other girl.
When Trey placed his arm around another skanky girl, Serena sat down,
crushed.
"Aw, hon I'm sorry." said Azure from across the table.
"Yeah he doesn't mean it." said Madison.
"I know, but if he could just acknowledge me for more than two seconds."
Back on the dance floor, Chris and Fiona were grinding to a Spice Girls
one hit wonder, and Mark and Rayne were dancing in the corner. Trey and
the skank had their own groove on, while David and Azure twisted in the
center of the room.
As Madison laughed at one of Holly's jokes again, she noticed someone
coming in through the the doors. Shon Greenblatt, Ele Keats and their
bunch of loser-snobs walked in.
"Gee, look who Satan dragged in," muttered Gabe, as Shon made his way
over to their table.
"Well well. Madison Casella and Gabe Damon. I didn't know that Gabe's
father could afford to send you here," Shon sneered.
Gabe looked away, hurt. His father had lost his job a few weeks ago, and
his last present had been his car. Now he had to struggle to afford
school.
"Yeah well our fathers can't all embezzle money from their companies,"
Serena shot back.
"Serena! Don't you look good tonight. I didn't know hookers commonly wore
knee length dresses," Ele shot back.
"Mmm-oh. Hey," Shon said, smiling at Holly. She furiously blushed, and
not knowing what to do gulped down her Coke.
"Greenblatt go back to your daddy's mansion!" yelled Max upon his
re-arival from the dance floor.
"Oh I'm sorry Max. I forgot you Italians-"
"We Italian's what?" asked Madison raising herself to his level. It was
another known fact, that Madison had come inches to drwonding Shon the
last time he made fun of her heritage.
"Shon! Let's not waste our time here!" sniffed Ele, twirling on her heel,
and stumbling back to her table. She was greeted with mock claps from the
Island kids, which she shot down with a glare.
"Adios," said Shon, ruffling Serena's hair as he left.
"Bastard," whispered Serena and Holly in unison.
"Yup," said Gabe. "And it's only the beginning. He really lives on the
mainland, but it's no fun unless he can torment us island kids. He goes
to Maridean. That's our school."
"Oh and what a pleasure it is," Serena added. "He and Fiona used to go
out, and when they broke up he took it hard. Plays stalker now."
"Didn't he try to ask you out once?" asked Dominic.
"Oh yes. He said 'as long as I'm in the McGee family I don't care how I
get there.'"
"A real charmer. But what about that other girl?" asked Holly. glancing
back at their table.
"Oh Ele? She used to be cool," smirked Madison. "But then she and Az both
went out for homecoming queen, and when she lost there was hell to pay.
She still hates us."
"Wow," muttered Holly.
"But we don't let them worry us too much," added Serena.
"Hey guys." They turned to see a nervous Ivan standing before them.
"Hi," chorused the group. Ivan shot them a "go away" look, and suddenly
they all had their own conversations.
"Hey Holly," he added.
"Hi."
"Say, you don't want to dance or anything. I mean, do you?" Ivan was
blushing so badly, that Madison burst out laughing.
Ivan and Holly both shot her a look, and Madison turned to Dominic and
Gabe, saying, "So how is the price of sheep in Alaska these days?"
Ivan rolled his eyes and returned back to Holly.
"Sure!" chimed Holly. The two left.
"AWWWW!" yelled Madison, Serena and Azure.
Max looked at his watch.
"GEEZ Louise, Maddie, Mom has a gallery show tomorrow, and will hate us if
we are late."
Madison shrugged angrily, and turned to Gabe. "Do you mind?"
"No," said Gabe, pulling her in for a long kiss.
"Yes, well smashing," Max grumbled. "Let's vamoose!"
The three said their goodbyes and moved out into the night.
"Finally! Room!" exclmaied Serena.
Aaron grinned at her. "Well someone's happy."
"Yeah well, maybe you should let your best friend know," she muttered,
motioning to Trey as she leaned back in her chair.
"Aww c'mon Serena. Ya can't blame him, if you haven't said anything."
"I guess but what am I supposed to say?"
"I like you," supplied Aaron.
"Or let's go out?" added Azure.
"Or can I be the mother of your illegitimate children?"
Everyone turned to see Dominic smiling devilishly.
"Okay sure."
"Whoa! Who's kids are you having?" asked Fiona returning to the table.
"No one's," grumbled Serena, pushing over.
"Just Trey's." added Dominic, tickling her ribcage.
"Dom!" she said, placing her head on the table.
"Aww c'mon Serena. We all know what a flirt Trey is," said Rayne coming
up to the table with Mark in tow.
"Oh good God. Why don't we just invite the damn six o'clock news into
this convo too. Listen guys, I can't help the way I feel about Trey. It's
so" Serena cut off.
"What?" aksed another voice.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKK!!" screamed Serena.
"Trey?" whispered Azure.
"Serena I had no idea-" he began, but she was gone. Bolting out of the
Nile, she caught the attention of the snob squad as she dashed out into
the now thundering night. Rain sloshed down on her as she made her way
out of the parking lot, and down to the shore where McGee's was. She
slipped on some wet mud, and the heel of her shoe broke. Sliding down
onto the beach, she stood up, and continued along the shore, wet and
embaressed. Twice, maybe three times she heard her name called. But he
knew now. She was so humiliated.
It wasn't long before she heard a familair voice.
"Serena McGee, just who I was looking for."
Serena turned, realizing who it was,and began to run. Her heart pounded
in her chest, and she slipped on her broken shoe, falling into the cold
Atlantic Ocean.
The speaker caught her, and after a few moments of attempts to free
herself, she felt a heavy object connect with her skull, and then tasted
the blood in her mouth. And then there was nothing but rain.
