This brown-haired, brown-eyed beauty is the definition of an All-American girl. Cindy's likeness can be seen everywhere: in magazines, television, the Web, and in malls everywhere. She's everything all women in America want to be.
Not only famous on the catwalks of fashion designers, Cindy has exercise videos and calendar spreads showing off her, er, talents. She had multi-year contract with Revlon, speculated to be worth in the neighbourhood of $3 million, only a fraction to her six to nine million dollar annual income. Recently, Cindy has come out with a book: Cindy Crawford: Basic Face. Unless there are some good, and I mean good pictures in there, I won't even consider buying it! How many guys out there need make-up tips? (Don't even answer!)
Cindy left as host of the MTV show, MTV's House of Style quite a while back. Her transition from the small-screen to the big-screen began with the action picture Fair Game. A weak plot and a chump for a leading man, Stephen Baldwin, didn't bring people to the theatres. In fact, I don't think I even want to watch it on cable... Cindy has a cameo role in the film Unzipped, with Christy Turlington. (I heard it was a bomb so don't even bother watching it. Try the Isaac Mizrahi flick...) Cindy has made her way back onto the boob-tube but the interview show bombed and was eventually cancelled.
Cindy's personal life has always been under public scrutiny. She was married to actor Richard Gere in Dec '91. The couple was plagued by bad publicity. Rumours have it that the marriage was a cover for the two celebrities: Richard Gere is heard to be gay; Cindy is rumoured to be bisexual (remember the Vanity Fair issue with her and k.d. Lang?). The couple paid a London newspaper $40 000 to publish an advertisement swearing the couple's heterosexuality and their devotion to each other. Like many Hollywood marriages, this relationship was doomed.
Some time ago in 1994, the couple officially announced their separation and ultimate divorce. Hollywood gossipers have it that Cindy was to be headed down the asiles with Val Kilmer but like all gossip, this was untrue. Apparently, Cindy has married former model / businessman, Matt Gerber. He's supposed to be some guy who's made his fortune opening up trendy bars in LA and New York... (I heard this from Hard Copy, so I don't know if that's the truth or not!) In case you didn't hear, Cindy had a baby boy a couple years back. In the July 9 issue of Entertainment Weekly they announced the baby's name and weight, etc... for those zealots that must know everything about Cindy. She also has another child, whose gender I am uncertain. Guess I haven't been paying much attention to Cindy now that she's been taking a step back from the limelight.
Cindy has not always been the poster child for the Christian Coalition. She appeared topless in the July 1988 issue of Playboy and several other photo shoots revealing more than that salacious smile. (NOTE: Cindy appeared in the OCTOBER 1998 issue of Playboy-- 14 pages worth!!!) Quote: "I don't mind if someone thinks a picture of me decorates their wall nicely. It's weird when you think what people might be doing to it. But if just the way I look can make someone feel good, that's a pretty easy way for me to bring them some pleasure. I just don't want to hear about graphic details, you know."-- US April 1993.
