The critics:
-
"A neat package of terror, sharks and special effects!"
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
- "OK, I understand how gene therapy made the sharks smarter, but what made the scientists so stupid?"
Barbara Shulgasser, Chicago Tribune
- "Yes, in its dumb, bludgeoning way, it's fun!"
Stephen Holden, New York Times
My Jacksonometer:
3 out of 5. "Very cheesy" would be the appropriate way to decribe this movie, but leave it up to Renny Harlin to make cheese entertaining. The sharks look awful, the acting is over the top (even Jackson's) but everyone involved in this movie knows what they're making is big-budget fluff. As far as fluff goes, this is the cream of the crop. Watch with a big bucket of popcorn and never take it seriously.
